PRESS INFORMATION – GILDEMEISTER energy storage Wr. Neudorf, June 2016 GILDEMEISTER energy storage wins Terna tender GILDEMEISTER energy storage GmbH (Wiener Neudorf, Austria) has won an ambitious tender for electrochemical flow storage systems published last year by Terna SpA, Europe‘s largest transmission grid operator. The tender Terna SpA, based in Rome, is not only Italy’s national grid operator and Europe’s largest transmission grid operator but is also the 6 th largest one in the world. One major responsibility of the Terna group therefore is the safe and effective management of the national grid. The innovative company is engaged in the development and implementation of storage system projects all over Italy. Due to the integration of a growing share of renewable energy sources, the management of the grid is becoming more and more challenging. In order to counteract this situation, a pilot project for electrochemical flow storage systems was tendered. With the integration of storage systems Terna SpA mainly aims to evaluate how energy storage systems can be used to enhance grid stabilization. In detail their function includes frequency control, voltage control and the balancing of energy within the grid. During the evaluation process several flow battery manufacturers were considered, three of which achieved the pre-qualification stage. After a 1.5 years tender procedure the consortium consisting of GILDEMEISTER energy storage GmbH as consortium leader and its partner Green Utility from Rome took first place and was awarded a contract to supply two large CellCubes. PRESS INFORMATION – GILDEMEISTER energy storage

Wr. Neudorf, June 2016

GILDEMEISTER energy storage wins Terna tenderGILDEMEISTER energy storage GmbH (Wiener Neudorf, Austria) has won an ambitious tender for electrochemical flow storage systems published last year by Terna SpA, Europe‘s largest transmission grid operator.

The tender

Terna SpA, based in Rome, is not only Italy’s national grid operator and Europe’s largest transmission grid operator but is also the 6th largest one in the world.

Meanwhile, after passing a demanding Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) the GILDEMEISTER team will be installing a FB 400-1200 turnkey storage system from their cutting-edge CellCube product line in Codrongianos, Sardinia.

The vanadium redox flow storage system

The decision for the vanadium redox flow technology was made because the GILDEMEISTER proposal gained the most points in both categories of quality and price. The project includes two CellCubes providing a nominal power of 400 kW and a storage capacity of 1,120 kWh. The commissioning will be done in July 2016, final acceptance is scheduled for September this year. Issuing this tender reflects Terna’s prominence in innovation. Terna has imposed an obligation on itself to offer revolutionary answers to today’s energy management challenges. That GILDEMEISTER energy storage has won first place confirms once more the top quality of the product, yet at an attractive price. The energy storage system provider assigns a high potential to the Italian market thanks to its strong penetration with renewables and expects further business opportunities within the country.

About the CellCube

Based on the vanadium redox flow technology the storage system CellCube of the GILDEMEISTER energy storage GmbH allows for a clean, zero-emission and fast energy supply. With these features it offers the optimal solution to provide power provision, e.g. in combination with renewable energy at any time. The use of vanadium salts increases the safety and operating life of the battery as they are neither flammable nor explosive and are not subject to cycle degradation. This leads to almost unlimited cycles of charging and discharging with up to 80% efficiency and a 100% depth of discharge capability. With simple and independent scalability of power output and storage capacity the CellCube is in operation already over 150 times worldwide for individual industrial applications, to smoothen the power output, for e-mobility solutions but also for off-grid applications and for the power supply in regions without a stable power grid.

About GILDEMEISTER energy storage

GILDEMEISTER energy storage GmbH, based in Wiener Neudorf (Austria), is leading in the development and commercialisation of vanadium redox flow energy storage systems. The CellCube has been developed over more than 15 years with around 10 years of practical application results and a continuous 4-years test with over 9,000 cycles, which is the equivalent of 22 years of daily cycling.
