Inorma estimates that users in Asia Paciic generated approximately 67,000 petabytes (PB) o

This volume means that the regions users generated, on average, 7.1GB o traic per month in2010, which will rise to 31.2GB in 2015

Fig. 2: Asia Paciic, average Internet traic per user per month, 2010-2015

Traic in Asia Paciic is very much a tale o two regions. Developed Asia Paciic, which Inormadeines as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, eatures countries with some o the astest broadband inrastructure in the world. The rest o theregion is much less developed in terms o inrastructure but, principally down to China and India, will be a huge contributor to traic because o the sheer number o Internet users in the region.Asia Paciic is already the largest region or Internet traic and by 2015 it will account or 42%o the worlds Internet traic. Asia Paciic Developing in its own right will be the second biggestregion, ater North America, in 2015. Inorma expects it to overtake the US in 2016.

Within the region, China generates the most traic. In second place is South Korea which, despitehaving a population o under a quarter o Japans, generates signiicantly more traic than Japan. However, Japan will overtake South Korea in 2014, while China will be contributing close to halo the regions traic in 2015 (see ig. 3). India, in contrast, will see much more modest growth;despite this markets size, it will still produce a lot less traic than Japan and South Korea in 2015.

Fig. 3: Asia Paciic, Internet traic by country and area, 2010-2015

The extent to which South Korea contributesto the regions Internet traic becomes clearwhen looking at the amount o traic each usergenerates. In 2010, South Korean Internet usersgenerated, on average, a phenomenal 31GB otraic per month (see ig. 4), almost three timesthe amount that users in Japan or any othercountry produce and our times the regionalaverage o 7.1GB. By 2015, although SouthKorea and Japan will still be the leading marketsby traic per user, Chinese Internet users willproduce a comparable amount o traic to those

in the rest o the Asia Paciic Developing region
