Installation timeThe installation time is approx 1.75 hours for cars without SA 694 and approx. 1.0 hour for cars withSA 694, but this may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.

In general the car must be upgraded to the latest I stage status by flashing before starting the work.Depending on the production age of the car and the work already carried out on the car, theprogramming times will vary, which means that we cannot quote a specific time at this point.

The installation time does not include any time for programming/encoding, as this depends on the ageof the car and the equipment in it.

Important informationThese installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisationand by authorised BMW service companies.

In any event the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMWcars with the appropriate specialist knowledge.

All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manualsand work instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing currenthealth and safety regulations.

To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, if any installation or function problems occur,after a brief troubleshooting session (approx. 0.5 hours), contact the following:1. Either your national sales company or your regional office or2. The Support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP) using the optional technical

parts support application.Quote the VIN and the part number of the retrofit kit and provide a detailed description of the

problem.

Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP.

All the figures show LHD cars, proceed in exactly the same way on RHD cars.

Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs incurredas a result of this will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.

Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.

If the specified PIN chambers are already used, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must beused.

Before you install the retrofit system, test the control module status with the CIP (coding, customising,programming) test program. If the test detects incorrect statuses in one or more control modules, thesemust be updated first using the “Load software” function.

Installation informationWhen routing fibre optic cables, make sure the bending radius is no less than 25 mm.

After the installation work the retrofit kit must be programmed / coded using DISPlus or GT-1 via theRetrofit path.

5. To install and connect the wiring harness (cars without SA 694 only)

Disconnect the 8-pin VI plug X11006 from thefuse holder (1).

Connect branch A1 to plug X11006 in PIN 5.

Connect plug X11006 to the fuse holder (1).

Insert fusible link G into slot 38 of the fuse holder(1).

Connect branch A5 to joint connector X18740,BR cable.

Insert the joint connector box in the mounting.

Release the control module holder (1).Thread branch A4 through the opening at the topleft into the control module holder (1).

Secure the control module holder.

Do not bend the fibre optic cable beyond itsbending radius limit of 25 mm.

Route branches A2 and A3 to the radio shaft.

Unclip plug X13815 from plug X13812.

5. To install and connect the wiring harness (cars without SA 694 only)

Disconnect the outgoing fibre optic cable fromplug X13815 PIN 2 and connect branch A2.

Clip plug X13815 into plug X13812.

Connect plug X13812 to the M-ASK/CCC.

Unlock the fibre optic cable connector (1) onbranch A3 and connect the disconnected fibreoptic cable (2).

6. To install and connect the CD changer (cars without SA 694 only)

Side securing point (1) may not be used,risk of warping.

Secure the CD changer holder B to the metalframe of the fuse box.


Push the CD changer C halfway into the holder B and connect branch A4 to the CD changer C.

Carefully push the CD changer C into theholder B ensuring that you do not kink the fibreoptic cable.

Note the tightening torque value: 0.7 Nm.

Secure the CD changer C to the edge of the trimin its installation position using the two Allenbolts (1).

Replace the flash adapter casing on the fibreoptic cable casing X13836 with the short circuitcasing J.

7. To install and connect the CD changer (cars with SA 694 only)

Unfasten tied back black plug X18180 of the CDchanger preparation from the standard wiringharness.

Disconnect the fibre optic cable (1) from the

connector (2).

To detect which is the fibre optic cableinput, an optical light signal can be seenwhen the ignition is ON.

Connect the fibre optic cable input (1) to PIN 1 ofcasing I.

Connect the fibre optic cable output (2) to PIN 2of casing I.

Fit the casing I to plug X18180.

Side securing point (1) may not be used,risk of warping.

Secure the CD changer holder B to the metalframe of the fuse box at the top right using self-tapping screws E.


Push CD changer C halfway into holder B andconnect plug X18180 to CD changer C.

Carefully push the CD changer C into theholder B ensuring that you do not kink the fibreoptic cable.

7. To install and connect the CD changer (cars with SA 694 only)

Note the tightening torque value: 0.7 Nm.

Secure the CD changer C to the edge of the trimin its installation position using the two Allen

bolts (1).

8. Concluding work

- Connect the battery

- Program/encode the CD changer using DISPlus or GT-1 via the Retrofit path.

- Conduct a brief test

- Conduct a function test

- Re-assemble the car
