    4 0 ,QWURGXFWLRQ 1.5 Warranty Information

1.5 Warranty InformationComponents comprising the CELL-DYN 3200 System havebeen designed by Abbott Laboratories for optimal performance.Substitution of reagents, accessories, or system components

may adversely affect performance and may invalidate anywarranty agreements.

Abbott Laboratories cannot accept responsibility for any clinicalresults produced by use of reagents, calibrators, controls,

equipment, or supplies either not manufactured by or notapproved by Abbott Laboratories.

1.6 System IntroductionEach CELL-DYN 3200 System may be comprised of three orfour major hardware components: Analyzer, Video Display,Keyboard, and optional Sample Loader.

    The CELL-DYN 3200 Hematology System

When approaching a hematology system from a serviceperspective, the word system must be emphasized becausethere are both internal components (system hardware andsoftware) and external components (reagents, controls, etc.)that comprise the complete system. The Service

Representative must realize that both of these types ofcomponents can adversely affect overall system performance. Therefore, it follows that all external components andconditions such as reagents, environment, integrity of samplesand controls be checked and verified as correct beforeperforming service on the internal components. In theinvestigation of any non-specific or data related complaint, the

system hardware and software should be the last componentsof the system to be suspected as the cause of the problem.

Warnings are inserted in this manual to alert personnel to

potential hazards. The standard warning conventions includingsignal words (e.g. Caution) and symbols are described below.

    Signal Words and Graphic Warning

    Conventions

    Signal Words

'$1*(5= Denotes an immediate hazard which, if not

avoided, could result in serious injury or death. This signal wordrepresents the highest level of any hazardous situation.

:$51,1*= Denotes a hazard which, if not avoided, couldresult in moderate to serious injury.

&$87,21= Denotes potential hazards that could result inminor injury. Also, used for conditions or activities that could

    threaten equipment performance.

    Biosafety

Clean-up spills of potentially infectious materials in accordancewith established biosafety practices. A generally acceptedprocedure for cleaning such spills is to absorb the spill withtoweling or other absorbent material, wipe the area with a

detergent solution, and then wipe the area with an appropriatetuberculocidal disinfectant such as 10% chlorine bleachsolution.

Prior to service or maintenance, the instrument should be

decontaminated in accordance with the following:

    a. Remove and dispose of contaminated disposables in aregulated medical waste container.

    b. Clean and decontaminate the exterior of theinstrument using a detergent solution followed by a10% chlorine bleach solution or other tuberculocidal

disinfectant. Flush the fluid pathway with chlorinebleach solution as specified in the Operators Manual.

Dispose of waste in accordance with local, state and federalregulations. Probes, needles, broken glass, slides, and othersharps that are contaminated with potentially infectioussubstances should be collected in a sharps container fordisposal as regulated medical waste. Contaminated gloves, wipes, and other disposables should be placed in a standardmedical waste container.

The biohazard icon identifies an activity or area wherepersonnel may be exposed to infectious substances.

The laser hazard icon identifies an activity or areawhere personnel will be exposed to an eye hazard ifprocedural or engineering controls are not observed.

The electrostatic discharge icon identifies an activity orarea where personnel must wear a ground strap whileservicing the system.
