THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Mother’s Day

Morning Worship – 9:30 a.m.

May 10, 2020

Silent prayer for use in preparation for worship:

Dear Jesus, Help us to spread Your fragrance everywhere we go. Flood our souls with Your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly that our lives may only be a radiance of Yours. Let us thus praise You in the way You love best, by shining on those around us. Let us preach You not by words, but by our example, by

the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what we do, [and] the evident fullness of the love our hearts bear to You. Amen.

A prayer of Mother Theresa of Calcutta, 1910-1997:

PRELUDE For the Beauty of the Earth arr. Chris Rice *CALL TO WORSHIP / PRAYER OF ADORATION (Psalm 31:1-5)

In You, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In Your righteousness deliver me!

INCLINE YOUR EAR TO ME, COME QUICKLY TO MY RESCUE; BE A ROCK OF REFUGE FOR ME, A STRONG FORTRESS TO SAVE ME.

For You are my rock and my fortress, and for Your name’s sake You lead me and guide me.

YOU TAKE ME OUT OF THE NET THEY HAVE HIDDEN FOR ME, FOR YOU ARE MY REFUGE.

Into Your hands I commit my spirit;

YOU HAVE REDEEMED ME, O LORD, THE GOD OF TRUTH.

*HYMN For the Beauty of the Earth

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (first silently, then in unison): ALMIGHTY GOD, WHO HAST SENT THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH UNTO US TO GUIDE US INTO ALL TRUTH, SO RULE OUR LIVES BY THY POWER THAT WE MAY BE TRUTHFUL IN THOUGHT AND WORD AND DEED. FORGIVE OUR MANY SINS, AND MAY NO FEAR EVER MAKE US FALSE IN ACT OR SPEECH. CAST OUT FROM US WHATSOEVER LOVETH OR MAKETH A LIE, AND BRING US ALL TO THE PERFECT FREEDOM OF THY TRUTH, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. AMEN.

A prayer of Bishop of Durham Brooke Foss Westcott,1825-1901

“A Time With the Children” prop GREENWOOD COMMUNITY CHURCH, PRESBYTERIAN Warwick, Rhode Island

May 10, 2020 WE WELCOME ALL who are worshipping with us today via this online

Service of Worship. A few have mentioned experiencing occasional difficulties with screen freeze and/or “buffering” pauses; this has beensomething of a traffic volume issue on the streaming provider’s end which we think is now

corrected. The service will be archived and posted @ twenty minutes after the live stream … and will be available for viewing for ONE WEEK and without buffering interruption. Again, a special word of welcome is extended to any

who are visiting with us on line this morning…whether you are visiting us for this hour or looking for a new church home, welcome to our fellowship.

During the offering we will again be dedicating tithes and offerings we have received during the week; THANK YOU to all who have remained constant in your financial support of the Greenwood Community Church during this time of economic hardship for many of you AND when we are unable to meet together as a congregation. Some have given by utilizing “Bill Pay” options offered by most banks, others have mailed or dropped off donations to the church office, and finally the option for on line giving via a service provided by the Presbyterian Foundation is up and running. A summary of instructions and answers to frequent questions can be found by clicking the link below the “Give Now” icon on the www.gccp.org home page.

We continue with the Wednesday Night Hymn Sing via Facebook May 13, 7:15 PM, and will live stream worship next Sunday, May 17, 9:30 A.M.
