CCIE v/s Software Engineering as a Career

Students from different genres upon clearing their graduation or master’s degree remain confused about their job

preference that is in which field they must go and find a job in – Networking or Software Engineering. Several people with

different perception advice differently as per their own experience or beliefs. Networking and software engineering are two

separate fields of IT industry having different job roles for individuals. Networking professionals get job roles like Network

Administrator, Network Engineer, Product Manager Networking, Security Consultant, Installation Engineer, Desktop

Engineer, Network Support Engineer, LAN engineer, WAN engineer, VoIP engineer, Security Manager, R&S Engineer,

IVP4 and IPV6 Engineer, etc. whereas Software programming offers job roles like Java engineer, Manual or Automation

Tester, C# developer, Asp .net developer, Quality engineer, Associate developer, Graphics Software engineer, Web

designer, Software developer C/C++, etc.

Aspirants while deciding which track/field to take up as their career must consider certain points before coming to any

conclusion about their choice. Networking and Software Engineering – both are IT related fields and must be taken up as

per choice and preference. Put simply one must take up a career which he/she is passionate about. Things like money

automatically follow if he/she is well equipped with track’s knowledge and expertise. Someone rightly said “Be competent,

success will follow”. One must always be clear about his/her likes and dislikes, career growth and opportunities that

particular field offers to its aspirants, salary packages offered to freshers and experienced and are their enough job

opportunities to give you the much required phycological satisfaction. Research and observe how much and what all you

can articulate from the particular domain chosen.

Networking: The most prosperous field of IT Industry

Networking as a career offers variety of career growth opportunities with good designations and salary packages. Various

tracks of networking ranging from CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCAr, MCSE, CCSP, CCIP, etc. have enormous growth scope as

aspirants get to experience and work with elite group of companies and its officials worldwide. If we talk about the most

demanded track/certification of networking Industry that is CCIE – Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert then it is considered

as the god of all certifications offered by Cisco. CCIE certification by Cisco calls in for lot of hard work and practice  to be

put in by the candidate as practical knowledge of the course concepts require in depth understanding of the track which

can only be gained through limitless practice on real Cisco devices: routers and switches. If we talk about the actual

meaning behind networking it relates to LANs and WANs where LANs is for associate/lower level jobs and WANs is

related to higher level Cisco certifications. Post completion of higher level Cisco certifications fresher graduates from

different backgrounds like B.tech, BCA, BE, B.com, BA, etc. get great jobs irrespective of their educational qualification.

Salary packages offered to CCIE candidates

If freshers go for CCIE certification in tracks like CCIE R&S, CCIE Security, CCIE Voice, etc. then they can expect to get

starting salary packages ranging from 5-10 depending upon the track chosen. CCIE R&S offers a starting of 2-4 lakhs to

freshers who are CCIE written certified and 5-8 lakhs to lab certified candidates. CCIE Security on the other hand offers a

starting of 6-8 lakhs per annum upon being CCIE Security lab certified and CCIE Voice certification offers 8-10 lakhs per

annum to lab certified fresher graduates/candidates. It’s time for freshers to go for Cisco CCIE certification training in India.

Software Programming v/s Networking

If we talk about the software engineering industry, number of jobs available are less competent and doesn’t offer great

growth opportunities to its aspirants. Students from B.tech, BE and BCA background blindly go for fields like java, C, C++,

C#, .Net developing directly creating severe competition for themselves. 95 students out of 100 opt for software

developing jobs form technical backgrounds thus, increasing more competition explicitly. One will find ample number of

software developers with less salaries and insecure job positions as compared to those with their employment roots in

networking industry. Networking’s CCIE aspirants outshine software developers at all times as they are in a lot demand

for simple reason that is shortage of CCIE certified aspirants. We only have 40, 000 CCIEs all over the world where as the

job requirements in this category is beyond many lakhs. Also countries like Nigeria, USA, UK, Australia, Malaysia,

Singapore, etc. have evergreen scope for CCIE certifications. India too offers exceptional growth opportunities to CCIE

aspirants in different tracks in various cities like Mumbai, Noida, Gurgaon, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai,

Kolkata, etc. All that matters is relevant knowledge and skillset of the candidate and his ability to handle the designated

tasks.

Each and every field of IT industry be it networking, software programming or any other field requires sincere dedication

on the aspirants part. One must be very clear about what he wants to do in life and what he wants to becomes. What he

wishes to reap out of the job profile and where he/she see themselves 20 years down the line. When you have answers to

all these questions then only you are sorted about your choice and career.
