Located at the heart of the UK and identified as one of its fastest growing counties, Northamptonshire is both enterprising and ambitious.

Northamptonshire:

The Place to Invest

Northamptonshire for Business Growth

At Creative Northants, we understand that successful businesses are of paramount importance to growing the jobs market. They are equally crucial when it comes to marketing the county as an ideal place for business development and therefore securing Northamptonshire’s economic future.

www.creativenorthants.co.uk

Northamptonshire is at the forefront of supporting enterprise and entrepreneurship, skills development, European and international inward investment as well as major investment in commercial development, infrastructure and the environment.

The county is at the centre of a leading communications network and is located at the heart of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, Europe’s premier high-tech region. This allows easy access to UK markets and population and ensures quick links to continental Europe.

Northamptonshire’s central location means excellent access to rail links to London and Birmingham, two of Europe’s largest centres of cultural and creative industries activity, with both cities less than an hour away.

There is easy access to the major road networks, M1, M40, M45, M6, A14 (A1-M1 Link), A43 and A45 and there are five international airports within one hour’s drive time.

“Northamptonshire was the natural choice for me to start a creative business after years working in London’s west end.

The county has a large number of businesses that we have worked with and it provides a

geographically convenient location.

I have been delighted by the informed and tangible business support and networks

that Creative Northants has provided. Northamptonshire offers beautiful countryside which helps to strike a work life balance. It also

has proactive business networks and a rich cultural heritage for artistic regeneration”.

Case Study 01Balance Ltd

Balance is a marketing agency that works with businesses to help maximise their brand potential.Clients include local, national and international companies including Delta Motorsport, KS Composites and the Rugby Football Union.

In summer 2012, as part of a multimillion pound hospitality programme, Balance was an integral part of the creative team supplying Coca-Cola’s Global Hospitality business. As part of a significant Olympic contract, Balance, in conjunction with The University of Northampton’s NVision Technology Centre, developed a unique digital and 3D delivery package for the corporate hospitality market. Using some of the latest 3D immersive cave technology to visualise experiential spaces prior to installation, the package allows hospitality providers and global brands to walk around their hospitality venues well in advance of on-site installation.

“Northamptonshire is the ideal location

for our business as its transport links enable

us to supply and support major direct and

agency clients across the UK’s primary

commercial centres without the associated

cost of their locations.”

Driving DigitalDevelopmentSuperfast Northamptonshire is developing 100% Superfast Broadband across Northamptonshire over the next five years, bringing growth in demand for digital content and for improved online networking and services.

This will enable creative industries to be at the leading edge of the global digital economy.

We understand that Superfast Broadband is a key factor influencing the decision for businesses to locate in the county. It has also become necessary to help deliver innovation and the improvements in business performance that will lead to job creation and economic growth.

Northamptonshire County Council has already committed over £4m, alongside funds from government and a supplier, to invest in a new infrastructure by 2015. This investment is focused on the rural areas and other areas outside current or planned superfast deployments.

Plans are also being developed to secure additional funds needed to extend countywide coverage by 2017 with access to achievable line speeds in excess of 30mbps.

Investing in SkillsIn common with the rest of the UK, youth unemployment is a key issue for Northamptonshire and, increasingly, there are high numbers of bright young people looking for alternatives to higher education.

There are a number of industry-wide initiatives in place to address this and to encourage businesses to think about employing young people as part of their development plans. Initiatives include NEP’s Challenge 2016 (2,016 apprentices by 2016) programme and Work Inspiration Northampton designed to promote work experience.

Creative Northants is promoting and co-ordinating a sector specific programme of Creative Apprenticeships to benefit creative businesses. We are working with Creative Alliance, the leading independent training provider within the sector, to deliver this.

Apprenticeships bring enormous benefits and fresh-thinking to small businesses, helping them grow. What’s more, they have the potential to change young lives. We are delighted that so many of our creative and cultural businesses have signed new apprentices.
