This scale of despair and brokenness has never been experienced by this generation of New Zealanders. For those of faith, we have a Rock to cling to in times such as this. Jesus grieves with the broken-hearted, He brings hope in the darkness, and comfort as we walk through the ‘valley of the shadow of death’. As the people of Christchurch rebuild their homes and city, we all have the opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet in helping to rebuild lives. EASTER 2011

The Christchurch earthquake has stunned the nation and devastated many lives.

May our love be active and may Jesus be discovered as people are ministered to – practically, emotionally and spiritually.

As Christians, we have a message of hope for all people.

After the February quake hit, a NewstalkZB reporter said, “I’m an atheist, but there is nothing I would rather do right now than go to a church service.” As TVNZ’s Joy Reid observed, “People will be seeing Easter in a whole new way.”

In times of darkness, the light of the Gospel shines even brighter – and this is our prayer as we prepare for our Easter broadcasts… that we will communicate well the hope of Jesus in the midst of the nation’s present turmoil. With your help this Easter, we’ll draw listeners to the hope, love and peace of the Good News of Christ.

If you watched any TVNZ coverage on the day of the February earthquake, you will have seen Joy Reid who reported from the midst of the smoke and rubble, as buildings blazed and sirens screamed. As she faced the cameras and spoke to the nation, she still didn’t know if members of her own extended family were alive. Reflecting on the disaster a few days later, she said, “My whole life has been put in perspective.” She also commented, “It’s been amazing to see lots of bright little pockets of ‘God at work’ amongst the horror.”
