Although GoldenROM is considered to be the most quality driven fi rm on the east coast, we believe that everyone has room to improve. In the summer of 1998, we hired a Supervisor for Quality & Customer Satisfaction. This “Quality Czar” position helps GoldenROM be even more systematic and successful about how we manage for and deliver quality to our customers.

GoldenROM’s approach to quality begins with understanding client’s needs and expectations in general, and in particular on a job by job basis. These expectations would pertain to all aspects of the job: such as pre-press, duplication, labeling, printing, binding, shipping, and even accounting tasks.

Before jobs are accepted, GoldenROM personnel work with clients to fully understand their requirements and to be sure that those requirements can be met. The requirements are then communicated among all personnel involved in satisfying that job, and it is understood that when anything is unclear, people ask questions rather than make assumptions.

Throughout the production of the job, clients are fully involved and approve such aspects as proofs, verifi cation masters, press sheets, and samples before any further processing is done. In this way satisfaction is almost guaranteed.

Key processes are monitored throughout the company for ways to improve consistency, effi ciency and value to clients. Quality Assurance personnel, for example, assist the duplication, assembly, and fulfi llment areas to monitor key quality variables such as data integrity, component piece accuracy, and accurate shipment methods.

In addition, key external and internal indicators of performance have been developed for the overall company and for individual departments as part of the quality planning process, and these are monitored and reviewed regularly to identify opportunities for improvement. As such, opportunities are identifi ed, appropriate personnel are involved and actions developed with corresponding responsibilities and schedules for implementation.

OPTICS, which stands for Online Production Tracking and Inventory Control System, was developed by GoldenROM, Inc. for its clients to allow the viewing of real time production information by the client, for the client.

Developed 100% in house by GoldenROM’s software engineers, the real-time order tracking module allows customers to log in to GoldenROM’s secure SQL server and browse past and present production orders and their statuses within the operation of GoldenROM’s production process.

OPTICS is unique in that the system ties in several of GoldenROM’s production software modules to deliver to the client production data in real-time. No other company in the CDROM industry offers such comprehensive real-time job monitoring.

Given a secure login, the client can have access to up-to-the-minute order specifi cs like job status, job progress, billing, and tracking information. The OPTICS system ties in with both UPS and FEDEX tracking systems to provide the client with exact information about the job and its routing.

OPTICS offers point and click functionality over the web using Internet Explorer and Netscape. Because it is web based, no client side software is needed. Once given a login account, the client then has the ability to add secondary accounts for fellow staff members to use the system if necessary.
