“My dad bakes the best Strawberry potjiekos cup-cakes in the whole world,”

Caydon tells everyone at the watering hole, “and yours?”

Page 5: Caydon's dad

“Baking – o what?” says Tristan. “My mom makes magic mushy marshmallow

goo. One bite and you flippity flop!”

“Wow!” Thinks Caydon. “Is her mom a sangoma?”

Page 6: Caydon's dad

“My Dad can make any Black-Bean-Batman tree grow,”

says Conner, who lives next door toCaydon. “And yours?”

Page 7: Caydon's dad

Caydon snorts: “Oh, that is soooo easy, it as easy as Sugarplum-Silly-Nonsense.

My dad made a Magic-Tall-Talking-Giraffe, grow into the clouds, twice!” Conner frowns. He does

not want to stay next to a sangoma.

“No, my dad does not waste his time with knitting!” says Caydon. “He just waves his

magic shoe in the air and says abaracadabra, and then I have the most

magnificent Woolly-Wafer-Chocolate biscuits in the

whole world.” “Unreal,” says Holly, “Your dad isn’t a

magical cup-cake fairy!”

Page 9: Caydon's dad

“My dad built the most amazing under-sea castle and it can make a blooop-bloooop shhh-braka te braka sound. It is the only one in the whole of South Africa,” says

Caydon in Holly’s ballet class, “and yours?”

Page 10: Caydon's dad

“Well my dad can speak almost all the insect languages on earth,” says Johannes proudly, making a chiiiruaaaachfff sound,

“and yours?”

Page 11: Caydon's dad

“Of course, but can your dad speak the Stripy Whale language? And the language of Orange Bouncing Ants?” asks Caydon.

“No, of course not,” says Johannes, giggling at Caydon. “Well, my dad can,”

says Caydon, “and he can speak Pink Bubble-gum language to, like

poppety-pop-pop-pop, and om-nom-om-nommm-nommm-nommm.”

“My dad can ride any insect on earth,” says Kentridge while he and Caydon are riding on the rocking horse in the park,

“and yours?”

“Sure he can. But can your dad ride a butterfly?” ask Caydon.

“Of course!” yells Kentridge, making the rocking horse shake even more. “I told

you, he can ride any insect!”

Page 13: Caydon's dad

“Oh,” says Caydon and thinks it over, “But I bet he’s never been on a Spider

Boat!” “Neither has your Dad, “says Kentridge, laughing at him. “Of course he has,” says Caydon. “He’s flown through Asia on a

Rocket many times!”

“Come on, Caydon,”says Kentridge. “You make up too many stories! No one

believes you anymore!”

One day later all Caydon’s friends came to his house for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party: Tristan, Johannes, Conner, Holly and Ken-

tridge. Caydon’s dad was also there!

Page 15: Caydon's dad

All Caydon’s friends began to tell his dad about his stories, and that it was all lies.

Caydon suddenly burst into tears.

Page 16: Caydon's dad

“Can you really make Magic Sail Boats grow into the clouds?”

Kentridge wanted to know, “And can you really fly on a Spotted Pony?”

asks Johannes. Caydon’s dad smiled and winked at Caydon.

Page 17: Caydon's dad

“Well, I can when I use my imagina-tion…” The children froze and looked at

Caydon’s dad. “How?” asked Holly.

“Come let me show you. Caydon, bring me your favourite storybook and the

magic dust under my bed.”

Page 18: Caydon's dad

“Remember, Caydon, sometimes it is real-ly important to let your friends understand

what you mean when you talk to them, they know that you are honest and I am

sure they will forgive you,”

says Caydon’s dad as he reads them a story about

Bubble-gum Fairies and Blueberry Bees flying in the sky talking silly languages.
