Thanks to your incredible efforts on a cold and windy day, we have made excellent progress toward the completion of the Landcare project and the front of the Admin building is looking fabulous. Thank you also to all of the parents who have been supporting the school by helping in the canteen, working in the classrooms and transporting children to sports events. Your generosity in giving up your time to help with the students’ learning programs is greatly appreciated. In the past two weeks we have been very proud of the achievements of our students and of the school spirit shown by the many students who have been representing our school. Congratulations to our School Captain, Flinders Crimmins, who received a Youth Recognition award for Academic Excellence from Wollondilly North Rotary. Flinders is a wonderful role model to other students by demonstrating an excellent work ethic and is a worthy recipient of the award. Last week I had the pleasure of accompanying four of our school leaders to a student leadership conference at Wollongong University and was very impressed with their level of involvement on the day. I was also very pleased with the sportsmanship and level of participation shown by the cross country team members and would like to congratulate all of our students for their achievements in the Zone carnival. In the newsletter today you ill find information on downloading the School Stream App to your mobile device. We have begun using the App again as another means of effectively communicating with the school community. IMPORTANT NOTICE

The P&C Meeting which was to be held today has been postponed.

4 June 2018 Week 6, Term 2, 2018

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: Dear Parents and Friends of Cawdor PS

A big thank you to the families who came along to the working bee on

Saturday. Thanks to your incredible efforts on a cold and windy day, we have

made excellent progress toward the completion of the Landcare project and

the front of the Admin building is looking fabulous. Thank you also to all of

the parents who have been supporting the school by helping in the canteen,

working in the classrooms and transporting children to sports events. Your

generosity in giving up your time to help with the students’ learning

programs is greatly appreciated.

In the past two weeks we have been very proud of the achievements of our

students and of the school spirit shown by the many students who have been

representing our school. Congratulations to our School Captain, Flinders

Crimmins, who received a Youth Recognition award for Academic Excellence

from Wollondilly North Rotary. Flinders is a wonderful role model to other

students by demonstrating an excellent work ethic and is a worthy recipient

of the award.

Last week I had the pleasure of accompanying four of our school leaders to a

student leadership conference at Wollongong University and was very

impressed with their level of involvement on the day. I was also very

pleased with the sportsmanship and level of participation shown by the cross

country team members and would like to congratulate all of our students for

their achievements in the Zone carnival.

In the newsletter today you ill find information on downloading the School

Stream App to your mobile device. We have begun using the App again as

another means of effectively communicating with

the school community. We will be sending out

regular notifications to parents so we encourage

you to get onboard and keep up to date with

school news!

Finally, a huge thank you to our enthusiastic and

dedicated staff who have been working hard to

meet the needs of all of our students and to

Cawdor truly is a great school!

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME was celebrated with a very entertaining performance

by the Year 6 students. The students acted out the

story ‘Hickory, Dickory, Dash” which was the book selected for 2018 Simultaneous Storytime. Year 6

organised their costumes and props themselves, with

a little help from Ms Ihlein. All the staff and students

from Kinder to Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed the play.

Week 11, Term 1, 2017

Cawdor Zone Cross Country Report

Look at these winners! They all ran their little hearts out last Friday at the cross

country carnival. I took 20 of our best long distance runners to compete and they

can all be very proud of their efforts. I certainly am. There were over 90 competitors

from 25 different schools in each event. All Cawdor representatives completed the very difficult race. Our best result was in 10 year old girls with Autumn Crimmins

coming 16th. 1st across the line for Cawdor in other age groups was Caitlin Parker,

Hewson Crimmins, Anthony Di Natale, Jessica Lee, Noah Fitzgerald and Flinders

Crimmins. Well done!

Enrolments Enrolments are now being

taken for 2019. There are

vacancies across the school

so spread the word!

Small schools are great

schools.

Snippets of Cawdor’s History

Cawdor Public School was opened on 1st

June 1858 in premises leased from the

Wesleyan Church of Cawdor. At the end

of the year the number of students

enrolled totalled 46.

The first teacher in charge was Mr James

Humphreys who was a baker with a huge interest in arithmetic. Mr Baker retired

from teaching in 1883 and he was

succeeded at Cawdor by Mr John

Fletcher.

1858 was the year in Australia in which

the “Welcome Nugget” (gold) was found in

Victoria and Australian Rules football

was born!
