Cattle and Cattle on Feed: Final Estimates by State, 1994-98, U.S. Department of Agriculture,Agricultural Statistics Board, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Statistical Bulletin No. 953.

Introduction : This bulletin presents final estimates, including revisions made by the AgriculturalStatistics Board (ASB), for the production years 1994 through 1998. Cattle inventory and calf crop,number of operations, inventory by class, inventory by size groups, monthly cattle on feed numbers, andannual estimates of cattle on feed were published during calendar years 1994-98 in periodic ASBreports. Data included in this publication provide a historic record and a benchmark for currentestimates. Inventory values and value per head will be published in the Meat Animals, PDI - FinalEstimates 1993-1997, Statistical Bulletin No. 959.

Procedures: Revisions were made after a thorough review of the original survey data and all additionaldata now available, including the 1997 Census of Agriculture. Other data series considered includedslaughter, exports, and imports. The relationship between inventory levels, calf crops, death loss,exports and slaughter were compared to historic totals. The 1994-1998 estimates shown herein areconsidered final and will not be revised again.

At the National level, revisions to estimates of all cattle, and calf crop were less than one percent.
