CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2019 is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” We kick off the week with the St. Cecilia School choir singing at the 10 AM Mass, open house and other activities for students, families, parish-ioners and members of the community and region. I am so proud of our school and the teachers and children. I am excited about everyone taking the time to walk through the school and see the good work that is being done each day. The days are full of faith-filled activities. The children are growing academically and learning the faith and their prayers. It is so impor-tant to support our regional school, so please keep them in your prayers.

Amen? Amen!

Catholic FAQsWhat does the Church teach in regards to the reception of Holy Communion?

“ A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to…receive the body of the Lord without previous sacramental confession unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case, the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition which includes the reso-lution of confessing as soon as possible” (Code of Canon Law, Can. 916).

“ After being initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, each of the faithful is obliged to receive Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at another time during the year” (Can. 920).

RCIA This WeekPlease pray for all of those journeying to full Communion with the Catholic Church!

This week’s (January 16) RCIA lesson is is THE EUCHA-RIST: The Source and Summit of Christian Life. This session will cover:• How we know Jesus was speaking literally and not figura-

tively when he said to eat his body and drink his blood• How the Eucharist can really be Jesus’ body and blood

when it still looks like bread and wine• What Catholics mean when they say the Mass is a holy

“sacrifice”• How Jesus longs to be united with us in Holy Communion

Questions for the week: What does the word Eucharist mean? What does it mean to be a Eucharistic people? What does the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist mean? How would you explain to someone how what looks and tastes like bread and wine REALLY IS Christ’s body and blood?

2019 Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) The 2019 Catholic Ministries Appeal kicks off throughout the archdiocese this week. The CMA is our opportunity each year to support the work of six vital ministries and their many programs, all of which operate right here in our archdiocese. This weekend we will be listening to an audio message from Archbishop Schnurr explaining how our support each year of the Catholic Ministries Appeal is part of our commitment to our faith. Please prayerfully consider supporting this year’s CMA. For more information, please visit CatholicAppeal.info.

“While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to his disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’” – Matthew 26:26

33 Days to Morning GloryA 6-week retreat featuring Fr. Michael GaitleyThursdays from February 14-March 25, 2019• 12:30 - 2PM in the rectory meeting space at St. Margaret-

St. John and facilitated by seminarian Louis Jacquemin• 7- 8:30 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons and facilitated by

Fr. Jacob Willig

From Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC, author of the bestselling book Consoling the Heart of Jesus, comes an extraordinary 33-day journey to Marian consecration. Featuring the teachings of four giants of Marian spirituality—St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and Pope St. John Paul II—Fr. Gaitley shows how simple it is to put Marian devotion into practice.

People’s lives today are often busy and challenging. Stage 1 of the Hearts Afire par-ish-based program offers individuals a quick and easy way to withdraw from the demands of daily life and enter into a peaceful interior reflection on their relationship with Christ in the context of Marian devotion. We begin with the Immaculate Heart because Mary leads us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The end result is that, by learning to entrust ourselves to the Mother of Our Lord, we can discover a transforming trust in Jesus himself.

The Serra ClubThe Serra Club is an international Catholic lay apostolate whose mission is to support and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious orders. Saint Junipero Serra, who came from Spain to found the major mission in California, is the patron of the organization.

They are inviting anyone interested in more information

and in possibly becoming a member to a dinner on Feb. 20, 2019, in the undercroft at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral. A

social hour will begin at 6 PM followed by dinner at 7 PM. The evening’s speaker will be Judy Cozzens, president of the Serra National

Council of the United States.

Contact Jerry Davis at [email protected] for more

information on the group and its mission and activities.
