My dear parishioners, When responding to God’s call with authentic happiness and joy, we can find a truly fullness of life and a peacefulness of heart. When the external expression (what is done) is not coherent with the underlying feeling (what is felt), it is translated into a false joy, a simulation, and a “performance” of being joyful. Throughout our lives, we become aware of people who pretend to be joyful, strive to express the joy that is not authentic and keep up a fake smile to suffocate feelings they do not want to surface.
As Christians, it is important to respond to God’s call about happiness through honest contact with ourselves. It is necessary that we get to know ourselves well and our real needs so that our actions might be authentic. The cultural environment in which we live nowadays offers various alternatives to achieve “joy,”; not always positive ones. We live in an age where pleasure is the principle of life for many people. Pleasure has been placed at the top of all values in our society in recent years. The media is increasingly spreading the “pleasures” of life, what is most comfortable, easy, and immediate. It promotes joy in what is superficial and transitory. It is not hard to see that after all this misinformation about real joy, our society truly misunderstands the real meaning of human fulfillment. Today’s culture centers joy on the “values” of having power and pleasure. These “values” put aside the reality of God and joy as an expression of a good spirituality. Given these characteristics, our society produces everyday people that feel empty and without a sense of life. We can all see the negative consequences of people who live without God and seek joy in these superficial values that our society offers. The loss of joy is one of the most evident manifestations of living without God, forgetting the true vocation to life, and living disconnected from one’s own identity. Our social environment pushes emptiness, loneliness, and sadness. It offers transitory, false, and comfortable joys. Our culture is, sadly, cheating us. Our duty as Christians is to respond to God’s call for authentic happiness and joy. We must know ourselves fully and have a real grasp of our own identity as daughters and son s of God. We must seek a sense of human self-realization based on Christian values. We must walk through life, seeking the pure sources of Christian happiness, and live each day with an authentic expression of joy. We must fill our world with true joy. We need to allow ourselves to “feel” that inner harmony, a sense of fullness, and peace coming from the only source: God. May we as a parish community find an authentic joy founded in God. Father Juan

Padre Juan

THEO 2023 Theology of the ChurchTraining
Is Fr. Frank a racist? Instructor: Fr. Frank Coady with Kevin WillmottCourse Description:Racism is not just a sin; it is sin. It participates in that original alienation from God and from each other that is allegorized by our first parents in the Garden as well as by the Tower of Babel. It is the desire for separateness, for comparison between the sexes and the races. We are called to a continuing conversion: the call to restore the original unity as well as to long for and work for the ultimate unity which is the Kingdom.Conversion is an ongoing process. We are periodically called to a deeper awareness of our sin. Likewise, we are called to deeper conversion: letting go of current attitudes in order to make way for reconciliation with God and with God’s people. The course will, with non-judgment and humor, help us to see our own failures so that we can not only be healed but also be agents of reconciliation.Feb. 3, 10, 24, Mar. 3 Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Instructor: Fr. Robert SchremmerCourse Description: The Church can be brimming with life, filled with love, motivated by compassion, serving the poor and outcasts, only if it can become a community with servant leaders with open willingness to let the future unfold in the power of the Spirit of God. Liturgy and ritual, especially Eucharist, provide the powerful presence of God unfolding within Jesus Christ. As over past centuries, there is an opportunity for the chaos we currently experience both personally and globally to open us up to the Church’s mission to become and to nurture a dynamic web of relationships in which all humanity can find itself part of the wondrous whole that is the Body of Christ.Jan. 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar. 6, 13 Saturday mornings 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon
