USING OUR TIME WISELY

A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey. In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and always, we can manage our daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to treasure not earthly wealth, but God alone.

USANDO NUESTRO TIEMPO SABIAMENTE

—Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Everyone,

Yesterday after church, I spent some time at my daughter and son-in-law’s house in El Dorado Hills along with their two children. Also, my other daughter and son-in-law came down to join us along with their three children. All five of my grandchildren at the same time along with their parents. We spent the after-noon interacting and watching the kids play. That is a great day for me. I did miss my other two children who live outside the area. Having all the family around would have made a great day perfect.

In a similar way, coming to church or a church event has the same affect for me. My friends are here. I get to interact and feel the warmth of their love and caring. A good day. Many in our church community need this feeling of warmth, caring and love in their lives but for various reasons aren’t coming as they once were. Please, if you know someone who fits this category, encourage them to come to church or our church functions and reconnect with our faith family. We all need to feel the warmth, caring and love of our church community here at Saint Patrick. Let’s make our good days together perfect by having all our friends here so we interact and show our love.

Sincerely,

Keith Flaherty, Grand Knight, Monsignor Hayes Council

This year we will have a few activities for the kids. We will also have a cake walk and face painting. Bring your drinks and come and relax with your fellow parishioners and enjoy some B.B.Q. chicken, salad, corn on the cob, and dessert. Did you know that our first parish picnic, recorded in our bulletins, was held on Sunday, September 29, 1996? That is close to 23 years! Hundreds of parishioners came together to partici-pate in the Mass before enjoying a delicious meal along with music, games and so much fun. We hope you can make it to this 23rd year of our parish picnic!

NEWS FROM FAITH FORMATION

St. John Vianney

Feast day is August 4th Patron saint of priests. Through his dedication to his priesthood, prayer, fasting and penance he converted the townspeople of Ars and people flocked to him in the confessional. St John Vianney, pray for us.

Please remember to keep religious vocations in your prayers. For those who are discerning, that they seek and listen to God’s plan for them. And, for those who are already Priests, Deacons and Religious, may they be strengthened by our prayers and by the knowledge that they bring us all closer to God through the Eucharist and the Sacraments. Amen!
