In 2021, it is really amazing something as tiny as a snowflake can cause the havoc that it does. It also reminds me of one of the great truths of our faith. One of Martin Luther’s great errors involved an analogy in which he used snow. Luther said, (I’m para- phrasing) “In baptism Jesus covers up our sins, like snow covers mud, making them beautiful.” I don’t know about you, but I’m glad he’s wrong, and especially glad there’s no snow involved in our salvation whatsoever! In baptism Jesus completely takes away our sins, there’s nothing left to cover up! Thank the Lord for his love and mercy! A flurry (pun intended) of meetings lie ahead of us. All three of Atlantic’s major advisory councils will meet in the next two weeks: Pastoral Council, Finance Council, and Faith Formation Committee. I am very grateful to those who give their time and energy to serve on these boards. Pastoral Council will discuss Ash Wednesday, Lenten, and Easter schedules. I was able to also discuss these matters with Anita’s Parish Council recently. Stand by and look for information. I look forward to celebrating Holy Week and Easter with a congregation physically present this year! On January 25 we celebrated the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. This great scene from scripture is depicted in one of the beautiful murals which adorns our sanctuary. It reminds us that the Lord can call any of us, no matter how strange of a choice we (or others) think we might be. Perhaps this week, we can consider how the Lord is calling each of us to grow in greater love and service to him. In the Lord, Fr. Trevor Chicoine

JANUARY 31ST: FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Friends,

Heavy snowfalls like we had this week always remind me that I am not in control! In 2021, it is really amazing something as tiny as a snowflake can cause the havoc that it does. It also reminds me of one of the great truths of our faith. One of Martin Luther’s great errors involved an analogy in which he used snow. Luther said, (I’m para-phrasing) “In baptism Jesus covers up our sins, like snow covers mud, making them beautiful.” I don’t know about you, but I’m glad he’s wrong, and especially glad there’s no snow involved in our salvation whatsoever!

One Church. One Mission. Real Lives. Each parish is part of the Church Universal; it is the

Catholic Church in a particular place. The bishops of the United States created the national

collections so that, by combining resources, we can more effectively carry out our mission as Catholics representing our community of faith at work in the

world, saving souls and improving lives.

ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spir-itually into my heart. I em-brace You as if You were al-ready there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for

women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd.

This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples.

Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and

respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.

KNIGHTS LEAD THE ROSARY

WORLD DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE

TITHING 2020 2021

January 24th $455.00 $470.00

Before every 10:30 AM Sunday Mass one of our Knights of Columbus will lead us in the rosary.

The repetition in the Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each

Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts,

where Christ's spirit dwells.
