Fi"eenth Sunday in
Ordinary Time (C)
Dt 30:10-14 / Col 1:15-20 / Lk 9:25-37
The scholar of the law had the right answer, but the wrong ques!on. Love God
with all your heart is the great Jewish law, and love your neighbor as yourself
was part of the Holiness Code of Levi!cus. But he asked, “Who is my neighbor,”
as though neighborliness was determined by a specific set of rules or re-
stric!ons: My neighbor is the person who lives next door, a!ends my child’s
school, or works in my field.
We, too, may think we’ll help a neighbor, but a stranger—an outsider, a
foreigner, someone who simply isn’t “like me”—may be a different ma$er. For
many, there are a few excep!ons: When natural disasters strike, for instance,
people reach out to help. They clear debris, send money, food, and supplies, and
try to comfort the vic!ms. In such circumstances, they are all neighbors.
Jesus turns the scholar’s ques!on around: “(Who) was neighbor to the
robbers” vic!m?” This change put the responsibility of being a neighbor on us.
The answer becomes, I am a neighbor to everyone I meet, whether stranger or
friend, black or white, Chris!an or atheist, gay or straight, na!ve or immigrant.
Being a neighbor and loving neighbors is part and parcel of loving God and fol-
lowing Christ. Once I realize that, I must acknowledge two connected truths:
God sees me as I am, loves me, and calls me neighbor; and the only conceivable
response to that love is to see God in every person and to love them in return.

IS COMING SOON
Don’t miss this opportunity to have you and your
family’s portrait taken and included in our Church’s pictorial directory. All portrait sessions
will take place at our Church. You will have a variety of poses
taken with your family. One pose will be selected by you for the directory. In addi!on to your complimentary 8 x 10 and directo-

portraits on the day of your portrait session. There is no obliga-!on to purchase addi!onal photos. Sign-ups for your portrait
session are a"er Masses each weekend in July, OR you can schedule your session online at our Church website at stcolum-
bacatholic.com. Every family that registers no later than July
31st, will be entered into a drawing to receive one of three $100 gi" cer!ficates. Register early—you may be the lucky one!

2016 STEWARDSHIP OF TIME & TALENT
It is !me again to begin preparing for stewardship of TIME and TALENT. To get started we’re asking that all ministry leaders join
us on Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30 pm in the Office Conference
Room. If you were listed as a ministry point-of-contact person on the 2015 TIME and TALENT form, OR you’ve been selected as
a ministry leader by the Pastoral Council, please plan on a&end-
ing this mee!ng. We are going to discuss the needs of each min-istry and work to establish a brief mission statement for each
ministry. This will help us create the TIME and TALENT form for 2016.

A NEW LOOK FOR OUR SUNDAY BULLETIN
It’s very exci!ng to be able to have a full color bulle!n without addi!onal cost to the parish. To make this
happen, there needs to be a change in the deadline for submi'ng informa!on to be included in our Sun-
day bulle!n. For example, any informa"on that needs
to be in the July 24 bulle"n must be received in the
Church office either by email or in wri"ng, by July
11 . If you have an announcement that you need to
get out to the parish a"er the deadline, our website(www.stcolumbacatholic.com) and our Facebook page
are excellent alterna!ves.
IONA…Iona is a luncheon group for
Seniors in our parish. Everyone is wel-come; bring a friend! We meet next on
Tuesday, July 19 at 11:45 am at Wire-
grass Rehab Sterling Event Services. Please call Joyce Lenz at 693-5150 by Sunday, July 17 if you have ques-
!ons or wish to a&end.

website: stcolumbacatholic.com and click where it
says “Click here to learn more about the Jubilee of Mercy.” Then click on “Year of Mercy-Explana!on of
the Logo.” Here you will find a beau!ful explana!on!
