Dear Sacred Heart Family,

As the Archdiocese sent out resources to schools about “Respect Life Week” I became increasingly excited about celebrating this at Sacred Heart.

Upon reflecting as an adult what respect life means, I continued to think about my own children. Three of my kids are in college at KU. They are living university life where it’s not uncommon to study all night, take a nap during the day and socialize with friends to wee hours in the morning. As a parent, I am frequently concerned about how they are doing-are they making good grades and decisions? Is graduating and getting a job even on their radar?

Teachers used the resources provided by the Archdiocese in their lessons this week. It struck me that respect life is instilling in our young people the value of being concerned about another person-caring enough to see the other person doesn’t get their feelings hurt-adopting the mind-set: “May the Jesus in you meet the Jesus in me.”

As I’ve stated many times, at Sacred Heart, we have made a concerted effort to make the self esteem of every student grow in a positive direction. Witness-ing the celebration of respect life week has made it very evident, once again, that we must continue to do everything in our power to provide continual lessons of the value and dignity of every person. We must also empower our students to seek the good in one another. Being kind to others is an absolute must…not a maybe.

You can help us! By having family discussions, we can continue to instill in our children their uniqueness and the individuality of every person they encounter at school. Let all of us work to build a school culture of compassion, kindheart-edness, and reverence for life.

By the way, one of my children at KU got a job last week. He will graduate in December and start working January 2nd. I can check off that concern!

Blessings to you and your families.

8th Grade Baby PicturesDear 8th Grade Parents,

We would like to formally ask you to send in a baby or toddler photo of your child. We use these in the yearbook as a fun throwback, and we would love to have everyone be able to look back at their former selves. Please send in your child’s photo by or before Thanksgiving Break, as we need to assemble the yearbook. Any 8th grader who submits their photo early, on or before midnight of Halloween, will get a candy treat.

We would like if you could send in a digital high or medium quality photo (jpg preferred, NO pdf ’s) to [email protected] or bring in a photo and give it to Mrs. Barragree or the front office. Make sure your child’s first and last name is on the photo, and you will get the photo back. Thank you again.
