March 17, 2019
MONDAY EVENING EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
AND CONFESSIONS
The Litany of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception,
Eucharistic Adoration and Confession will be held from
7PM to 8PM on Monday, March 18. Please come and spend
time with our Lord.
GUIDELINES FOR LENT
The following is a list of Guidelines to help Catholics
observe this special season of prayer, penance and works of
charity.
· Good Friday, in particular, is one of the most important
penitential days of the liturgical year. It is a day of
both fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days
of abstinence.
· The rule of fasting states that only one full meal a day
can be taken. Two small meals, “sufficient to maintain
strength”, are allowed, but together should not equal
another full meal. Eating between meals breaks the
fast, but drinking liquids does not. The rule of fasting
obliges all Catholics from 18 to 59.
· Abstinence r efers to the eating of meat. The common
estimation of the community is used to determine what
falls under the category of meat. The rule of absti-
nence binds all Catholics 14 years or older.
· The substantial observance of the laws of fast and
abstinence is a serious obligation.
· Self-imposed fasting on the other weekdays of Lent is
recommended. Abstinence on all Fridays of the year is
also highly recommended.
· Parents and teachers should see to it that, even those who
are not bound by the laws of fast and abstinence because of
age, are brought up in an atmosphere that is conducive to a
sense of penance.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Fr. Harlow will lead the Stations of the Cross each Friday
evening during Lent at 7:00 PM in the Church. Prayer
cards with the Stations of the Cross are available as a way
of meditating on the Stations during the week as well.
Please make attendance a priority.

munities across the United States—in a life-changing Lenten

end Masses. These are in addition to our regularly sched-
uled times.

WEEKLY LITURGICAL CALENDAR
Mar 17—Sun. St. Patrick’s Day
Mar 18—Mon. Optional Memorial of St. Cyril of Jerusalem
Mar 19—Tue. Solemnity of St. Joseph
Mar 23—Sat. Optional Memorial of St. Turibius of
Mogrovejo
LITURGY OF THE WORD
Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 In a holy covenant, God promises
Abram a homeland.
Psalm 27 “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”
Philippians 3:17-4:1 Christ will change our lowly body
to conform with his glorified body.
Luke 9:28b-36 His face changed in appearance and his
Clothes became dazzling white.
Today, we hear two dramatic encounters with God. In the
dark of night, God leads Abraham into a covenant, promis-
ing that Abraham’s descendants will be as numerous as the
stars of the sky and live in what will be called the Promised
Land. In the Gospel, God speaks to Peter, John, and James
through the shadow of a cloud. Saint Paul, who had a dra-
matic encounter of his own with God, assures the Philippi-
ans and us that we will share in Christ’s glory in heaven.
