For over 30 years, Gullivers Sports Travel has organised tours to the Hong Kong Sevens, viewed by players and supporters alike as the most prestigious event on the IRB Sevens circuit. If you’ve ever been to the Hong Kong Sevens, then it is easy to understand why rugby fans want to go back time and time again. The carnival atmosphere is second-to-none and is truly international with fans from across the globe making the annual pilgrimage to this great city. As well as the rugby, the city of Hong Kong is great to explore and experience, with the skyline at night truly breath-taking.
The Sevens provides a real buzz around the stadium, with the stands full to bursting and fancy dress all but compulsory. This is the ideal venue to watch fast, skilful and entertaining rugby. This is the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong Sevens so you can expect this year’s tournament to be bigger and better than ever. As a player, nothing compares to the amazing atmosphere we experience on the pitch in Hong Kong and in recent years, I have experienced this atmosphere off it. It is a complete must-do for any rugby fan and you can understand why this is always a sell-out. DISCOVER HONG KONGHong Kong certainly has no shortage of dramatic high-rise glitz and glamour, however remnants of old Hong Kong remain apparent in its many historical buildings as well as its culture. This frenetic, bustling and gloriously madcap city offers something for everyone.
With the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens offering three days of action packed rugby, it is easy to be distracted from Hong Kong as a holiday destination. This fantastic city is a place where you can treat yourself to the very best of 5★ living, but you can also have an amazing time with just a couple of Hong Kong Dollars in your pocket.
If organised sightseeing tours are not for you, then public transportation across the city is easily accessible. Hong Kong provides such a variety of attractions, whether you wish to travel to Victoria Peak for magnificent views of the harbour, the city and beyond, or take the Star Ferry across to Kowloon for the iconic view of the Hong Kong city scape at night. Alternatively, visit more historical destinations across the city such as the ancient and beautiful Man-Mo Temple, built at the beginning of the British Colonial rule in the 1800’s.

Thank you to Gullivers for facilitating a wonderful Sevens experience. My son and I enjoyed every minute of the whirlwind trip, and we were so impressed with the ease with which everything fell into place. The staff in Hong Kong were unfailingly friendly and efficient, and we really appreciated the facilities at the hotel, the fact that we had time to explore a little, and the well-oiled details like airport transfers, shirts, tickets and so on. And then, of course, there was the rugby - a wonderfully packed three days, enhanced especially for us by the fact that Canada did so well! All in all, the adventure was a ‘bucket list’ item that I can now cross off with excellent memories and great satisfaction. Thank you again for your part in making it so!

TOKYO, JAPANThe Japan Sevens in Tokyo takes place the weekend after the Hong Kong Sevens (4–5 April). With Japan gearing up for the Rugby World Cup 2019, this fascinating city combined with the enthusiastic Japanese supporters will provide a fantastic atmosphere in which to watch the Sevens. It is easy to travel around, and contrary to belief, the language barriers aren’t a problem. If you’re lucky, you will be able to see the world famous cherry blossoms during your visit, as blooming time is late March–early April.
Tokyo is a wonderful and exciting city. I travelled around the city and beyond effortlessly. All public transport and tourist sites are signed in English and there are several great day trips that have English speaking tour guides. The tournament is in a lovely little stadium and the crowd were friendly and knowledgeable and very happy to talk all things rugby. I definitely recommend it!
