Canadian experience and training to immigrants in their transition to

Canada.

Are students learning and demonstrating their culinary knowledge by

assisting with your orders and gaining invaluable work experience—your

orders really do make a difference!

Includes an array of exciting dishes from around the world. We focus on

popular national dishes that reflect a country's identity and culture. All of

our food is prepared and cooked with only the finest of ingredients, and

sourced locally where possible.

We take orders Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Delivery available Monday through Saturday.

Please place your order at least 3 days in advance of your event.

Minimum order sizes are 8 servings per item, and a minimum cost of

$100 before GST. Please note, for Saturday we have a minimum order

of $300 before GST.

Should you need to cancel your order, a cancelation fee may apply.

For special requests of Halal meat/products a surcharge will apply.

A new beginning...

Mariam* came to Canada as a refugee from Africa. She was feeling defeated and

hopeless during her first years in Canada. After her husband’s violent and abusive

behaviour in Africa, her stay at her married daughter’s house in Canada proved

equally abusive. She managed to find help at a local women’s shelter, through

which she connected with the Centre for Newcomers.

With encouragement from the Centre’ staff, Mariam gained new confidence. She

attended the Centre’s settlement and employment workshops and joined

EthniCity Catering, a training program at the Centre that gave her transitional

employment and commercial kitchen training. She applied for a job, and on her

last day with EthniCity Catering she accepted an offer for a full-time position at a

local grocery.

Mariam has now moved out of the shelter and is renting her own place. She

continues to work full-time while taking part-time English classes. Mariam

recently applied to sponsor her remaining children in Africa to immigrate to

Canada and has great hope that they will be able to join her soon.

The simple task of sharing a meal, ’breaking bread’ , has

long provided a means of connecting with family, friends

and neighbours.

For centuries, food has connected people and influenced

traditions - savouring the food, and embracing the

company, sharing time and swapping stories.

Founded in 1997 as a Collective Kitchen, Ethnicity

Catering began as a women’s peer support group in a

church basement. Our social enterprise has grown into a

full commercial kitchen offering a transitional training

program for immigrant men and women new to Canada.

For some of our participants this program is a life-

changing experience introducing them to their first job,

their first pay cheque, new independence, self-

confidence and a future of possibilities.

The Centre for Newcomers gratefully acknowledges the
