Our most popular cover crop mixture comprising rye and winter vetch; the ideal mixture to go through the winter. Winter vetch have a prolonged growing season and fix Nitrogen at lower temperatures than other legumes. Rye develops a strong root structure to scavenge Nitrogen from the previous crop, with good ground cover to suppress weeds.

Autumn DM EFA Compliant Sow at 35kg/ha
Suitable for early autumn sowing with high dry matter production. Phacelia puts on a large amount of growth in a short period of time. Black oats have very fibrous roots to improve soil structure and scavenge Nitrogen. With a more upright growth habit than rye, black oats also support the growth of vetch in the autumn.

CatchMore EFA Compliant Sow at 25kg/ha
Great mixture for scavenging nitrogen from the soil. White mustard and phacelia establish and grow very quickly, making this mixture particularly good for growing over the short catch crop period for EFAs. Suitable for use as an over winter cover crop as rye gives good ground cover through the winter and suppresses weeds.
Very quick growing Catches Nitrogen very quickly Most suitable for catch crop Covers ground through winter
40% White Mustard10% Phacelia50% Rye
Can be sown down to 25kg/ha for the most economical cover or catch crop solution. White mustard is quick to establish and fast growing. As it is tender to frost, it is also easy to incorporate in to the soil. Together with the prostrate growth of rye, this mixture is good at suppressing weeds, as rye still gives good ground cover through the winter.
Low Cost Covers ground through winter Fast establishment Good weed suppression
A blend of three different fodder radish varieties including nematode resistant and deep rooting tillage radish; great for improving soil structure, suppressing weeds and controlling nematodes. Keeping the sowing rate down to 10kg/ha encourages greater root growth to break up soil compaction. A higher sowing rate encourages a greater proportion of to growth. Fodder radish also scavenges Nitrogen from the soil.
Deep rooting Breaks up soil compaction Anti-nematode Very quick growing
Pan Buster Not EFA Compliant Sow at 10kg/ha
HydroMax Not EFA Compliant Sow at 12.5kg/ha
Cost effective solution for fast establishment and good ground cover to suppress weeds. Can be used effectively to improve soil structure and take moisture out of the soil over a short period of time. When turned over in to the soil, brown mustard has a biofumigation effect.
Deep, fibrous roots Good weed suppression Catches Nitrogen Low cost
Early Fixer Not EFA Compliant Sow at 25kg/ha
Ideal mixture for early autumn sowing, allowing Nitrogen to be fixed quickly before the mixture is taken out by frost. Berseem clover is a fast growing clover which fixes Nitrogen quickly, and phacelia puts on large amounts of growth. Black oats scavenge Nitrogen from the soil and also have an upright growth habit to support the growth of the berseem clover.
Best sown in early autumn Short term, very quick growing Fixes and catches nitrogen Taken out by frost
Soil Revive Not EFA Compliant Sow at 25kg/ha
Diverse mixture to improve soil structure and provide plenty of top growth. Fibrous roots of black oats and brown mustard, together with deep rooting radish break up soil compaction and improve soil quanlity. Large amounts of dry matter are also produced. Other benefits are the catching of Nitrogen and the anti-nematode effect of fodder radish.

Ecological Focus Areas (EFAs) – Catch and Cover Crops
Ecological Focus Areas are areas or features that the EU has decided are beneficial for the climate and/or environment.
If a farmer has more than 15 hectares of arable land, they will need EFAs.
If a farm does need EFAs, the areas and features used must be equivalent to at least 5% of the total arable area declared on their BPS application.
1m2 of catch or cover crops counts 0.3m2 towards a farmers EFA requirements.
Catch or cover crops must consist of one cereal and one non-cereal from the list opposite. If others are used, they cannot count towards EFAs.
Mixtures must be sown, and in the ground for either;o 31st August – 1st October, or
o 1st October – 15th January.
To count towards
EFAs, at least one
cereal and one non-
cereal from the list
below must be sown
in a mixture:
Rye
Barley
Oats
Phacelia
Vetch
Mustard
Lucerne
