Until the forties of the last century the center of brass

instrument manufacturing has been Graslitz in Northern

Czechoslovakia. The instruments coming from this area

soon became famous all over the world with export being

of utmost importance. The end of World War II brought a

sudden end to 150 successful years worth of instrument-

making in Graslitz. The instrument makers were then

scattered all over the world.

Quality is a value that transcends time

Some of the Graslitz fugitives found their way to Bavaria,Germany. Thirteen instrument makers founded the

Manufacturing Cooperative of Graslitz Instrument Makers

Ltd. in Waldkraiburg in 1946. They had only a few tools

in their possession and began with the repair of brass

instruments. Eventually they combined their rich and vast

knowledge and began to make their own instruments

under the new brand name Miraphone. This was the

beginning of a very successful venture, which continues

well into the twenty-first century.

The key to the quality of a musical instrument is in the

creators themselves. Their experience and skill as hand-

craftsmen influences each individual instrument. Not one

instrument leaves Miraphones production facilities without

being wholly convinced of its flawless quality. With this

credo, Miraphone has made a considerable contribution to

the world of bands and orchestras since its foundation in

1946, making it a priority to actively invest in the future of

wind music.

Instruments for peoplethat are in love with music

Both amateur and professional musicians have an intimate

relationship with their instrument. It means more to themthan just a piece of equipment.

This is also true for the co-workers at Miraphone in that

nearly every employee plays a brass instrument and shares

in the enthusiasm for wind music. Furthermore, Miraphone

strives to maintain an intense cooperation with renowned

artists worldwide in the researching and designing of new

ideas and innovations.

F TubaModel 381Belcanto Solo (5/4 style)

The Miraphone F tuba model 381C Belcanto

Solo is a new development based on the

Belcanto F tuba which has enjoyed the

limelight over the last few years in Europe,

USA and Australia. This instrument is designed

especially for tuba players that prefer the

vintage F-tuba sound of the 60s and 70s with

its own personality and character traits.

The major difference in the F tuba model 381C

Belcanto Solo is that the bell and bottom

bow are manufactured from thinner brass

sheets, the wreath is nickel silver and the

leadpipe is soldered to the bell with the lead

pipe tubing wrapping directly around the

mouthpiece shank.

F TubaModel 1281Petruschka (5/4 style)

Petruschka is the name of the front-action

F tuba with model number 1281. She is the

younger sister to the wonderfully successful

Firebird F tuba and made her debut at the

Musikmesse in Frankfurt in April 2009 as the

first ever piston F tuba to come forth from the

house of Miraphone. The Petruschka was

strictly assembled according to Miraphones

latest design guidelines consisting of a shorter,

more compact construction blue print. The

ergonomic proportioning with a height of

only 85 cm makes for effortless handling and

playability.

The integration of a wide bore valve section

lends symphonic potential and enormous

projection to the slimworking Petruschka as

evidenced by consulting the biggest concert

halls. The conical taper of the piston valve

system starts at 19.60 mm and opens to a full

20.40 mm through the 5th valve.

The 1281 F tuba Petruschka is a true all-

rounder. She can be blended easily into all

sorts of ensembles offering many options to

the tubist, and performs effortlessly and

determinedly in the biggest orchestras. For the

soloist, this instrument is a dream come true

leaving no wish unfulfilled.

CC TubaModel 291 Bruckner (5/4 style)

With the appearance of the CC tuba 291 Bruckner,

there is finally the offer of an equivalent rotary

variation to stand beside the Miraphone best-sellers

1291 and 1292 piston CC tubas. The CC tuba 291

Bruckner was planned and developed to be a

consequent complement to the 1291 series of

Miraphone CC tubas. The classical original model

for all contrabass tubas in compact styling has been

the 191 BBb tuba which served also as the sample

in the making of the Bruckner. This 5/4 CC tuba

(as well as the 1281 Petruschka) inherited the

asymmetrically bent top branch from the 1292 New

Yorker frontaction CC tuba. This time the concept,

however, was to connect the traditional sound of

German contrabass tubas in BBb with the popular

characteristics of a C pitch wished for by the brass

sections of international orchestras. The successful

combination of the wide flared 18.5 inches (470 mm)

bell, the conical bore of the 5th valve machine

(0.803 0.835 inches / 20,40 21,20 mm) and the

agile valve action will immediately grab the

undivided attention of the tuba tester. The clear,

full sound and instant response coupled with a

healthy portion of acoustic feedback to the player

earns the 5/4 CC tuba Model 291 Bruckner a

special reputation among the leading American

CC contrabass tubas todate. The 291 out of the

Miraphone Instruments family will undoubtedly

lend the CC tuba world a genuine novelty achieving

new heights and dimensions.
