Description Course Description
These courses have been designed and created to meet specific training needs identified within our services. These training sessions are one to two hours in length and usually run offsite in individual services. The following courses are available:
Environmental
This one day course looks at providing effective appraisals. This course is for managers or senior support workers who are or will be providing ap- praisals for members of their team. Staff attending this course will explore the principles of good appraisal practice and be able to practically demonstrate their skills

Autism Awareness Supported Living
Course Description Course Description
This half day course addresses the key characteris- tics of individuals with Autism. The course explores how Autism may impact on an individual’s behaviour and looks at preferred methods of working and the benefits it might bring to the individual.
Venue Dates and Times
Supported living is one of the newest models of providing assistance for people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own home. Establishing the correct level of support and maintaining it can be difficult. This half day course will help staff to address the differences between supported living and residential care. The course is linked to the Risk Management and PCP courses

Support and Supervision Breakaway Induction & Refresher
Course Description Course Description
This one day course looks at the key principles of Support and Supervision. The course examines why Support and Supervision is critical to managing care teams and providing quality care . Staff attending the course will be able to explore good practice within supervision and how to make best use of this essential management tool
This 3 hour course looks at physical methods of main- taining personal safety and breaking away from an as- sailant in the workplace using “Reasonable Force”. This is a physical course where students will be expected to work closely with colleagues and practice the tech- niques instructed. The techniques demonstrated are approved by the General Services Association (GSA) and will be taught by GSA Approved instructors. This training must be refreshed on an annual basis

This one day course looks at the key principles of Challenging Behaviour. The course examines the nature of behaviour that is deemed to be challeng- ing . Staff attending the course will be able to identify causes of challenging behaviour and theories and methods of management. Staff will also learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of aggression. Risk Management is a critical element of effective PCPs and Support Plans. All activities have an amount and level of risk. Staff on this half day course will learn the process of assessing and managing risk, so that service users can be supported to undertake the activities that they want or need to do with the least restriction possible.
The Care Quality Commission play a vital role in the setting up and running of our services. But what do they actually do? This half day course identifies the standards and regulations that the CQC enforce and guidance that inspectors use to ensure a care envi- ronment is meeting the required standards. Emergency First Aid at Work Report Writ ing
Course Description Course Description
This one day course is an accredited emergency first aid at work qualification for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
Staff attending the course will be taught how to as- sess and manage emergency situations including administering CPR and administering first aid to a casualty who is: unconscious, choking, bleeding or suffering from shock. Candidates will receive a cer- tificate valid for 3 years.
This half day course looks at the key principles of Report Writing. The course examines why effective report writing is critical to providing quality care. Staff attending the course will be able to look at examples of poor report writing and how they can alter and improve their own practice.

Course Description Course Description
Person Centered Planning and the use of Support Plans are essential to the care and support of people with Learning Disabilities. This half day course will enable staff members to facilitate an effective PCP and develop support plans, that will help service users to further their independence and achieve their goals and ambitions.
This half day course explores causes of epilepsy and identifies the common types of seizures that can occur. Staff attending this course will be able to recognise types of seizure and how to offer appro- priate support assistance and where necessary First Aid.

Management of Violence and Aggression Induction and Refresher Food Hygiene
Course Description Course Description
This 2 day course looks at the use of physical inter- ventions to manage Service Users who are behaving in an aggressive and violent manner, within a legal framework. This is a physical course where students will be expected to work closely with colleagues and practice the techniques instructed. The techniques demonstrated are approved by the General Services Association (GSA) and will be taught by GSA Approved instructors. This training must be refreshed on an annual basis
This one day course looks at Safeguarding the health of consumers in the provision of food. Staff attending the course will learn about: Microbiology and illness, Contamination and prevention of illness, Cleaning and disinfection, Food pests, Premises and equipment and Food safety control. Successful candidates will receive a CIEH recognised certificate valid for three years.
