A well-appointed aquarium immediately captures attention. Plants play afundamental role in the biological balance in the tank. Aquatic plantsproduce the oxygen that living fish require and remove the excess nutritional substances left by food. To obtain an attractive effect in your aquarium, just remember a pair ofrules: place lower plants in the foreground and higher ones in the background. In this way, the tank seems to have a deeper perspective. A similar effect can be obtained by arranging a bottom that slopesslightly upward toward the rear.A beautiful aquarium also requires a contrast of forms and colours tocreate variety and contrast. An aciform plant near a mixture of round leaves or even a red Echinodorus near an intense green Micranthemumcreate harmonic and interesting effects. At least half of the initial stock of plants should consist of fast-growingstem plants. They accelerate reaching biological balance. Later, they can be replacedwith slower-growing species.
