Shown in the large photo at left, the final step in construction of New York’s Freedom Tower was the installation of a 408 ft. antenna mast, anchored by four guy assemblies, each consisting of two 90 ft. long x 5 in. diameter synthetic cables.
Prior to installation of the guys, Yarbrough Cable in Memphis, TN load tested each cable to 400 tons—inset photo at left—cycling the load force 10 times for each cable between no load and 800,000 lbs.
The open body design of Yarbrough’s 1500 ton test machine permits quick access and facilitates rapid connect and disconnect of assemblies to be tested...ensuring quick turn-around for customers. Smaller test machines of 50 and 175 ton capacities are also available at our Memphis location. Testing capabilities at Yarbrough branch locations have recently been upgraded with new test machines of 100 metric ton capacity. All Yarbrough test machines are calibrated in accordance with ASTM E4 standards, traceable to NIST.
Our four full-service rigging shops in the Mid-South are ready to serve your testing needs. Contact one of our rigging professionals today to discuss testing for your next project.

All products supplied and fabricated by Yarbrough Cable Service are sold with the express understanding that the purchaser is thoroughly familiar with the safe and proper use and application of the products.
Responsibility for the proper and appropriate selection, use, and application of the products rests solely with the user.
Failure of products can occur due to misapplication, misuse, abuse, improper maintenance, corrosion, fatigue, wear, overloading, deformation, alteration, and other use conditions. Product failure could allow the load to become out of control, resulting in possible property damage, personal injury, or death.
There are numerous government and industry standards that cover products sold by Yarbrough Cable Service. This catalog makes no attempt to reference all of these standards, however, we do reference some of them.
In general, the products presented in Yarbrough Cable Service literature are used as parts of a system being employed to accomplish a task. Therefore, Yarbrough Cable Service can only recommend the use of products for various purposes within the Working Load Limits or other stated limitations.
Working Load Limit ratings indicate the greatest force or load a product should carry under normal environmental conditions. Shock loading and other extraordinary, non-typical conditions must be taken into account when selecting products for use.
Yarbrough Cable Service products are generally intended for in-line tension or direct pulling forces. Side loading must be avoided, as it exerts additional force or loading which the product is not designed to accommodate.
All capacity ratings in this catalog are approximate and must under no circumstance be considered absolute; capacity ratings apply only to new products or products in new, unused condition.
The Working Load Limit (WLL) or Design Factor or Efficiency Rating of each product supplied by Yarbrough Cable Service may be affected by wear,
Important Notice
misuse, overloading, corrosion, deformation, intentional alteration, and other use conditions. Regular inspection must be conducted to determine whether use can be continued at the catalog assigned WLL, a reduced WLL, or whether the product must be withdrawn from service.
The Working Load Limit of a rigging or lifting system must not exceed the lowest Working Load Limit of any component in the system.
Welding onto or modification of any rigging component should not be performed. Welding onto or modification of rigging components can be hazardous and can alter the load rating and ultimate strength of the components.

The employees of Yarbrough Cable Service are pleased to provide this catalog of our products and services.
Yarbrough Cable was founded in Memphis, Tennessee in 1951 by Jim Yarbrough. As a former ironworker, Jim was familiar with wire rope, its uses, construction, and applications. He knew there was a need for a service to provide custom wire rope slings and assemblies to industries in the Memphis area and in nearby towns along the Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee Rivers.
Beginning as a one-man operation with a single splicing vise set up under a shade tree in his backyard, Yarbrough grew his company into an experienced rigging loft that manufactures heavy wire rope rigging, web slings, endless synthetic slings, and chain slings. Today, Yarbrough Cable serves the rigging and lifting needs of the Mid-South through branch offices in Memphis, TN; Little Rock, AR; Pascagoula, MS; and Muscle Shoals, AL. Yarbrough has also become a trusted supplier to the worldwide heavy lift industry. We have provided below-the-hook rigging for some of the largest lifts around the globe, including the single piece removal of a decommissioned 3500+ ton production deck in the Gulf of Mexico, seen in pictures at right.
Welcome!

What is Rigging?
If you are a rigging professional, we believe you will feel right at home browsing the product categories in our catalog. If you don’t find what you are seeking or have specialized rigging requirements, contact one of our rigging professionals.
However, if you thought rigging was part of a news story about politicians and elections, read on. Here, rigging refers to the items used (ropes, hooks, shackles, chain, blocks, etc.) to lift, move, secure, or suspend objects…usually—but not always—large or heavy objects.
If you think about it, you will realize that humans have been using rigging in one form or another since the dawn of time. A cave dweller who fashioned a rope from plant fibers and used it to hang a side of meat in a tree to keep it away from animals was using rigging. When the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids 5000 years ago, they made extensive use of rigging—fiber ropes, pulleys, wheeled carts, log rollers, hoists, gantries, and the like—to move huge blocks of limestone from quarries along the Nile River to sites on the Giza Plateau and in the Valley of Kings.
We find rigging in use today in a wide variety of common tasks. When your mother or grandmother hangs clothes out to dry on a moving clothesline attached between the house and a tree with a pulley at each end, she is using rigging. If you hook a chain to your stalled car
and pull it to the service station, you are using rigging. You use rigging when you put up a tree swing for your kids. When you move a heavy piece of furniture or an appliance and use a dolly, a moving strap, or tie-down straps in a light truck, all of these items are rigging.
On a larger and more exotic scale, NASA uses some very specialized rigging to lift and attach the Space Shuttle to the Boeing 747 transports that ferry the space planes from coast to coast. Probably the most common, daily use of rigging is in the construction industry and in manufacturing plants where slings, shackles, hooks, chains, wire ropes, and related items are used to lift, move, and position building components, factory equipment, and raw materials or finished goods.
Whenever and wherever there is a need to lift, pull, suspend, secure, or stabilize an object or load, whether the weight is ounces or tons, rigging is how it’s done. Whether you are hanging a tree swing or installing an oil platform, Yarbrough Cable has the rigging you need to do the job.
