YU Handcraft’s handmade bags are all one-of-a-kind. We call them the ideal boho chic bag with its touch of colors and geometric patterns. Measuring 13x13” (33x33cm)*, this handbag acts as a perfect accessory where to store all the important “keep by your side” things, perfect for daily use, beach, picnic or just simply being fashionably boho chic. The handbag is made of 100% cotton and is very durable.
Not only are the handbags an exquisite fashion item, but they are also full of meaning and history. The handbags are made by the women of the Wayuu tribe; a tribe that has been existing for generations. They live in the Northern part of South America, by the Caribbean cost, in Colombia and Venezuela. Cultural aspects and traditions are very important for the Wayuu people. Wayuu women are taught from a young age how to become a leader with wisdom and deep knowledge of their culture. From the time when they are very young and as they grow up, they learn how to weave and express themselves through the weaving of di�erent items such as these extraordinary hand-bags, also known as mochilas.
Each mochila is handmade by one woman and she spends several days, sometimes up to twenty days to �nish one bag. The mochilas’ patterns and color combinations re�ects the women’s culture and creativity with inspiration from the elements of the earth and the nature. Centuries of history and traditions are presented to the lovers of meaningful fashion items.
