There have been a number of absolutely amazing opportunities our students have been participating in during the last two weeks. Such an exciting time for so many to participate in and celebrate. Australian Primary Principals Conference Last week I attended the Australian Primary Principals Conference held in Brisbane. The theme of the conference was - Agility, Creativity and Legacy. Key note speakers spoke of schools of the future and what we as a school community can create to optimise opportunities for each and every student to achieve his and her personal best. The key note speakers spoke about the strength of schools being partnerships – staff, students and the community working together. This practice is in place at Casula PS and over the next three years our goal is to continue to strengthen it.

As we have this term completed our 2015-17 school plan, I invite you to be thinking of the focus of the last three years and consider where we as a school community focus for the next three years in the 2018 – 2020 School Plan. A parent and carer forum will be held in term 4 for you to share your thoughts about the schools teaching and learning focus and how we can engage you as parents and carers in such. I will also put together a survey for parents and carers to complete if they are unable to attend the forum. Stay tuned for confirmation of the date.

Enrolling now for 2018 Currently we are enrolling students for Kindergarten 2018. Please be reminded that if you have a child turning 5 before 31 July 2018 they may enrol in Kindergarten to commence at the beginning of the 2018 school year. Please complete an enrolment form and return it to the office so we can start planning for Kindergarten 2018.

Should you have any concerns about starting your child at school please make an appointment to speak with the Principal or Deputy Principals who will be glad to assist in determining school readiness.

Kindergarten 2018 Transition This Tuesday we will be hosting our second Kindergarten Transition to School Meeting 1pm-2.30pm. Looking forward to welcoming parents/carers and their children to our fabulous school.

Travelling to and from school This term we have had a number of concerned community members call the school about our students traveling to and from school. For the safety of each and every student, I will share with you the observations of the community.

Crossing the Hume Highway - please ensure you reinforce that your children are to cross at the lights and to pause and look before they do, as cars and trucks do in fact at times go through red lights.

Catching the bus – please remind your children that they are to make their way to their bus stop as soon as they are dismissed from their teacher’s supervision at 3pm. If it happens that their bus doesn’t arrive or they miss the bus, they are to walk back to school and let us know in the Administration Office so that parents and carers can be informed and alternate arrangements can be made.

Walking home – please ensure your children understand they are to walk directly home and not go home with a friend unless prior arrangements have been made between the parents/carers. Students are not to enter the property of neighbours’ homes nor climb their fences. Safety and respect must be adhered to.

Thank you for continuing to work in partnership with the school so we can ensure our students, your children, arrive safely to and from school.

Communication I have continued to discuss with staff the importance of communicating with you and have taken on the feedback from the P&C and from individual parents when they have expressed what works best for them in communicating to and from the school. We have an established communication strategy and a key group of staff that upload and send information via FaceBook, Skoolbag, SeeSaw, the school sign and the newsletter. It matters to us that communication is accurate and timely. We ask you to continue to assist us in this area and I encourage you to reflect upon the current practices and let me know so we can refine them or adopt new ideas. Thank you again for your continued support in this matter.

Have a great week everyone. We have our second Kindergarten 2018 Transition to School, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 off on an excursion this week and our annual Beveridge Cup (St George V’s Bulldogs) hosted by Mr King and the P&C Krispy Cream Doughnut Fundraiser. It is a great event – join in the fun and come along and cheer from the sidelines. I look forward to seeing all staff and students back here at school on Monday 9 October 2017. Enjoy time with your children and enjoy the gift they are. On behalf of the staff, I say a huge thank you for sharing them with us during term 3.
