Mindspace Mayo is a free and confidential support service for young people?s mental health and wellbeing. Mindspace?s aim is to support young people aged 15-25 who are going through a dif f icult t ime to ensure they get the support they need. The centre in the Market Square, Castlebar provides a welcoming space for young people to call in, get information or have a chat one?to-one with a support worker. If a young person wants support, our staff are there to listen, without making judgements, and to provide supportive guidance. We also provide information and advice to anyone who is worried about a friend or young person in their l ife. Two-and-a-half months after cosmonaut Alexey Leonov became the f irst human to walk in space, NASA astronaut Ed White f loated out of his cramped Gemini 4 capsule 50 years ago Wednesday to become the f irst American spacewalker.In the f ive decades since then, astronauts and cosmonauts have chalked up 413 spacewalks, including 187 totaling a combined 49 days to build and maintain the International Space Station and 23 covering nearly seven days to service the Hubble Space Telescope.While spacewalks have become a relatively common part of modern spaceflight, working in the vacuum of space while moving at f ive miles per second and experiencing huge temperature swings passing into and out of Earth?s shadow will never be routine.?Every time we send our astronauts outside the International Space Station, we?re doing risk trades to make sure they?re going to be safe and accomplish the tasks they need to accomplish,? astronaut Mike Foreman, veteran of f ive spacewalks, or EVAs, said in an interview. ?Spacewalking will probably never get routine, at least not in the foreseeable future.?And it certainly wasn?t routine for Leonov, a 30-year-old cosmonaut who became history?s f irst spacewalker on March 18, 1965. Leaving crewmate Pavel Belyayev behind inside the Voskhod 2 spacecraft, Leonov spent about 12 minutes f loating outside, marveling at the view, before heading back to a makeshif t airlock.?The ability to see the whole Earth as a globe, pretty much, is something that was extremely attractive,? he said in a recent NASA interview. ?And I could easily recognize the Black See, the Crimea, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, (the) Baltic Sea, and it was all within minutes, if not seconds.?Equally impressive: the ?enormous, unbelievable silence.?

Tour of Mayo Charity Cycle, Sunday, September 6th 2015Western Care Association is holding the fourth annual Tour of Mayo Charity Cycle on Sunday, September 6th 2015. This is a leisure cycle open to cyclists of all abilities and this year cyclists will have the choice of two starting points in Castlebar and Foxford. The groups commencing from EACH starting point will have a choice of 50km & 90km routes on a very scenic circuit around Loughs Conn and Cullen taking in Castlebar, Foxford, Ballina, Crossmolina and Pontoon. And for those new to cycling who may find the longer distances daunting we have a Mini Tour of Turlough by which participants may cycle out to Turlough on the N5 with the main group and then return to Castlebar via the new Greenway!Participants will be presented with Medals and Certificates and full support and refreshments, etc. will be provided on
the day of the event. Entry is via raising Sponsorship or the payment of ?30 entry fee either online or on the day of the event. The entry fee participants in the Mini Tour is just ?15 payable on the day. Kids in Motion is a recreational gymnastics club for both girls and boys aged 3 to 14+. The club also caters for primary schools as well as Transition Year students and holds gymnastics camps and summer and easter fun camps. Kids in Motion is based in Crossmolina NS, every Tuesday from 5pm - 6.30pm for ages 4 - 13 + yrs; in Bangor at Kiltaine GAA Hall every Monday from 4.30pm - 6pm; in Rice College, Westport, on Fridays; An Sportlann, McHale Park, Castlebar, Co Mayo on Wednesdays and Saturdays; and also travels to schools throughout Mayo and Sligo during the week, where we set up and run a fully-equipped gym in a hall or classroom. Lorraine Cronin, who runs Kids in Motion, is a highly experienced IAGA certified gymnastics teacher. Lorraine has worked in schools throughout Mayo and Sligo delivering the gymnastics strand of the PE curriculum ? setting up the hall or classroom with all the necessary equipment.Lorraine has also worked for the Department of Education for 12 years, teaching PE in special needs schools and groups around Mayo. Relay For Life are recruiting... A team is made up of 10 to 15 people. They will joins us at our Relay on the 26th and 27th of September and as Cancer never sleeps a member of each team is asked to have a representative on the track at Breaffy Sports Arena for the 24hrs. HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR CASTLEBAR CYCLING CLUB"S YOUTHS!A great day of racing at the National Youths Championships in Westport. With the TT in the morning and the road race in the afternoon, Castlebar CC was well represented in a number of age categories.In the U11 boys, Rory Gallagher in his first race finished 2nd and 3rd in the road race respectively. In the U15 boys road race, Jason Potter and Ronan Reilly rode a great race and with 3km to go led the bunch but were pipped on the tough hilltop finish in Aughagower. With a very strong U16 field, James Tonra and Oisin
Conway in their first championships rode well in a very fast race. The future looks bright with strong performances all round. Future Ras men.......In the U14 girls, Maeve Gallagher again proved she is one to watch with victory in the U14 TT. In the girls road race, it was combined U14-U15 race with a field of over 20 riders. Maeve got into a break of 5 riders with afew km's to go and won her U14 category. Water Conservation Grant A new Water Conservation Grant of ?100 will be paid to eligible households from September 2015. To be eligible you must have registered with Irish Water before 30 June 2015. You must apply online for the grant and the application facility is open from 18 August 2015. However you cannot apply for your grant until you have received a letter from the Department. This letter includes information you need to make your online application. You should get this letter between 18 August and the end of September 2015. Find out more on watergrant.ie.Income tax self-assessmentPeople who are required to make an income tax return must file their 2014 tax return and pay their liabilities on or before 31 October 2015. Under the self-assessment obligations it is your responsibility to calculate your own tax liabilities and complete the self-assessment section of the Form 11 tax return. If you file your Form 11 on or before 31 August 2015, Revenue will calculate the tax, PRSI and Universal Social Charge (USC) liabilities on your behalf.This greatly simplifies the process. Also, Enterprise Officers in local development companies can offer advice and information on starting your own business.If you have been getting a jobseeker?s payment for 12 months or more, you
may be eligible for the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance. This allows you to keep a percentage of your payment for two years. If you are starting a business, you also may get extra supports, such as grants for training, market research, business plans and access to loans to buy equipment.If you have been unemployed for at least 12 months and you set up a qualifying business, you may be eligible for Start Your Own Business Relief. It provides exemption from income tax on the profits from your business up to a maximum of ?40,000 a year for a period of two years.Often, someone starting a small business does so as a sole trader rather than setting up a partnership or a company. However, as a sole trader, if your business fails, your personal assets could be used to pay your creditors. Your main legal obligation is that you must register as a self-employed person with Revenue. As a self-employed individual you pay tax under the self-assessment system.You may carry on your business using your own name. If you wish to use a business name you must register it. The Companies Registration Office has information about business names and different business structures on its website, cro.ie.Further information is available from your local tax office and your Local Enterprise Office.

AIRC supporting children with disabilit ies in Mayo was set up in 2009 by parents who they themselves have children with disabilit ies. We started out wanting to know how we could make life easier and more fun for our kids but also wanted to learn how to make life easier and fun for us parents too. It is important to get out there and meet other mammies and daddies that are going through the same as you. Not to feel that you are alone. Because you are NOT.We do all sorts, sensory cinema screenings in Castlebar, nights out for parents, workshops for the children, classes for our parents, help towards respite and equipment, advocate, and what we feel is more important a help line. We continuously liaise with service providers, regular Easter/Christmas and Halloween parties and our biggest fundraiser of the year is our gala ball, "festive feast" which takes place in Breaffy Hotel Castlebar.We meet on the 1st Monday of every month @7.30 pm for an hour or so. But check our Facebook page for any changes as due to family commitments we may need to cancel. We are all volunteers who do this all in our spare time as well as a busy home life and maybe work at the same time. We welcome everyone on any level to join us. We also welcome volunteers to work with us in helping us with communication, advocacy, support and fundraising.Due to the ongoing fundraising projects that we run we are always looking for help. All our monies stay in Mayo and go straight to the children of AIRC. The only way AIRC can carry on going is through fundraising and donations.We would like to thank all of the businesses in Castlebar, Westport and Ballina who have really been so generous to us over the past few years.

Castlebar Youths Football Club recently held some fund raising events from which a contribution was made to the Mayo Cancer Support Association, Rock Rose House, Castlebar. The fund raising consisted of the hosting of an Art Exhibition in the Connaught Inn, Spencer Street and a sponsored car wash at Castlebar Spa, Moneen Road, Castlebar. Thanks to all who attended and contributed to the events. A big thank you to Jarlath O?Hara from the Car Spa and Ultrafit studios for making the Car Spa car wash available. Also many thanks to Denis and Lee from the Connaught Inn for hosting an exhibition of the works of world renowned bog oak sculptor Liam Kelly. A lovely night was had by all those who attended. Liam donated one of his beautiful hand crafted pieces as a first prize in a raffle which was held on the night. Trek 4 Hospice on The Portuguese Way to Santiago de Compostela October 2015Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation is looking for walking and adventure enthusiasts to embark on The Camino de Santiago. On October 3rd ? 10th, travel with us for one week and trek one of the oldest ?Pilgrim? routes in the world ? El Camino de Santiago de Compostela.This year we have decided to take the Portuguese route into Santiago. The Portuguese Way or Caminho Portugués is a fantastic route for pilgrims looking for a more rural experience on the Camino de Santiago.On the Portuguese route of the Camino de Santiago you will walk past terraced fields, lush forests vineyards and peaceful sleepy villages.?By taking the Portuguese route, we are giving people who may have already done the Camino a chance to come again and take on another route while discovering a different approach into Santiago,? states Laurita Blewitt, Fundraiser with Hospice. ?Our last two trips have been fantastic experiences and I?m positive our next trip in April will be no different?.Mayo Roscommon Hospice has raised over ?75,000 in the two previous trips and is encouraging walkers of all levels to consider taking on this challenge.Pilgrims from all over the world have walked the Camino de Santiago for centuries, following the various paths on their way to Santiago de Compostela and the tomb of St. James. Today, whether walking the Camino for religious reasons, to find yourself, take a break or simply get back to nature, the Camino is a trip of a life time, a unique experience that inspires many, even after the journey is over.Although sometimes physically demanding, The Camino only requires a reasonable level of fitness, making this an ideal adventure for many people.On this section of the Portuguese Way we will reach the Galician coast in Arcade, a seaside town famous for its oyster festival; and the city of Pontevedra with its classic Galician old town and pedestrian centre. Being in the Rías Baixas, we will sample the region?s famous white wine, Albariño. On your way to Santiago, we will also pass Padrón, hometown of Galicia?s most acclaimed poet, Rosalía de Castro.We will of course finish at the famous Catherdral of St James in Santiago de Compostela.To be part of this unique adventure you must meet the fundraising target of ?2,500, where the proceeds will directly benefit Palliative Care Services in Mayo and Roscommon. A deposit of ?300 is needed to secure your place.
