The studies key catalysts include: Castle Ward Network Rail South Coast College Brighton University Local Health Centres 1 A CHANGING TOWN CENTRE As the Shaping Hastings program continues to change the character and fabric of the town centre, the local community (Castle Ward) wish to participate in the local regeneration process, hence the Castle Ward study. Potential partners/stakeholders Potential community assets Potential opportunities Potential partnerships Potential pilot projects An Integral Greenway 2 THE STUDY BRIEF Prior to the study, Castle Ward had several key objectives that helped clarify a framework or brief for the study. A key part of the brief was that the Greenway should play a key role in meeting community needs. Community–led issues include: Friendly neighbourhood Family oriented activities More skills & employment Environment & climate change Localism and community Health and wellbeing 3 THE STUDY THEMES To keep things manageable the study developed the concept of themes each of which tackled a key element of regeneration more easily understood by the commu- nity and general public. The study is based on: A Sustainable town centre A Healthier town centre A Greener town centre A Shared town centre A Vibrant town centre M (This panel in preparation)

The study developed the concept of focus areas which looked for existing or new assets with the potential for change to better meet future community civic and collegiate needs.

The study focus areas include:

• Rail Corridor• Station Plaza• Academic & cultural quarter• Summerfields• White Rock & Convent site• Hastings pier & seafront

5 THE KEY CATALYSTS

The study developed the concept of catalysts: key agencies who’s current and future needs mutually overlapped, and are not met by the town centres existing infrastructure.

The studies key catalysts include:

• Castle Ward• Network Rail • South Coast College • Brighton University• Local Health Centres

1 A CHANGING TOWN CENTRE

As the Shaping Hastings program continues to change the character and fabric of the town centre, the local community (Castle Ward) wish to participate in the local regeneration process, hence the Castle Ward study.

Key study issues are:

• A sense of place & local identity.• Potential partners/stakeholders• Potential community assets• Potential opportunities• Potential partnerships• Potential pilot projects• An Integral Greenway

2 THE STUDY BRIEF

Prior to the study, Castle Ward had several key objectives that helped clarify a framework or brief for the study. A key part of the brief was that the Greenway should play a key role in meeting community needs.

Community–led issues include:

• Friendly neighbourhood• Family oriented activities• More skills & employment• Environment & climate change• Localism and community• Health and wellbeing

3 THE STUDY THEMES

To keep things manageable the study developed the concept of themes each of which tackled a key element of regeneration more easily understood by the commu-nity and general public.

The study is based on:

• A Sustainable town centre• A Healthier town centre• A Greener town centre• A Shared town centre • A Vibrant town centre
