Note: during school time the two boys who facilitated the workshop are given the opportunity to stay in

after school to play board games. The school supports the playing heavily.

NOTES ON DISCUSSION AT SCHOOL (with the students, teachers and WSOY representative)

    SOCIAL MEDIA ALREADY IN USE

    1) Opit blog (e.g. cooperation with a school in England, personal blog)2) Opit chat (e.g. future school project with a secondary school in Oulu, own class)3) mobile phone (e.g. a map exercise)4) internet (used for information search)5) electronic newspaper

    VIEWS ON LIFELONG LEARNING

Students views on lifelong learning varied. Some thought it happens only in school. Those who think

learning happens all the time gave examples from their leisure time; boys referred to games and tv (they

learn English outside school from the games and tv) whereas girls referred to hobbies (riding a horse and

    books).

    DEVELOPMENT IDEAS FROM THE STUDENTS

    1) Make the learning more interesting and relevant to the students everyday life e.g.:Matt ate an apple NO! v.s. Anna Abreu ate an apple YES!

    2) Learning could be made more fun and interesting if it was in a form of a game, e.g. history andphysics could be integrated in an adventure or action game. Note: the game should have different

levels and challenges to keep it interesting and motivating.

    3) Practical challenges such as BizTown http://www.ja.org/Programs/programs_elem_biztown.shtml4) Students would be interested in visiting companies to see prospective workplaces

    DEVELOPMENT IDEAS FROM THE TEACHERS

    1) Open environment, how to link different learning environments e.g. Finland and England basedsoftware. Different options in language.

    2) Digital portfolio, which the students could carry with them throughout life3) Worldwide blog service that would enable students and teachers interact and share information

    nationally and worldwide.

    4) Virtual courses5) Possibility for teachers to contribute to OPIT or develop materials themselves.

DEVELOPMENT IDEAS FROM THE CASE OWNER WSOYPro Ltd

    1) Concentrate on solutions for schools. We have developed books, OPIT-program and training forschools - what could we offer the schools in the future?

    RECAP OF THE VISIT

Team divided in smaller groups to reflect on the case visit. Groups agreed on 2-3 issues that they feel are

important and want to work on.
