“Fuji Xerox Confident Colour Programme Enabled ColourScan Print to Reduce Time for Reference Proof Creation by 50%” Background From a humble beginning in 1977 with only 7 staff, ColourScan Print (ColourScan) has grown and transformed from a local pre-press scanning production service provider to a successful and leading digital imaging solutions services provider of 170 staff with businesses in the regional commercial and advertising market and a global presence in the United States and United Kingdom. Challenges ColourScan’s journey has not been without challenge. Faced with ever growing competition in the printing industry, and having to meet customers’ demand for shorter and shorter production times, the production team at ColourScan was under constant pressure to optimize their processes, especially in the area of reference proof creation. It became increasingly apparent to ColourScan that their existing labour intensive reference proof process, using inkjet technology was outdated, providing a less than optimal solution to meet their growing customers’ needs. This pain was particularly apparent as requests from customers to print on more substrates, and for proofs to be printed on the actual substrate that would be used for the print job and not on inkjet paper continued to increase sharply. ColourScan recognised that they needed a solution that would improve productivity, efficiency and reduce running and overtime costs. Solution ColourScan engaged the Fuji Xerox Colour Analysts from the professional services team, comprising of FograCert Digital Print Experts, to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their print environment and current workflows and to design a solution that would address the identified challenges and pain points as well as provide scope for ongoing increase in business volumes. Fuji Xerox with 7 FograCert Digital Print Experts, the largest team in the industry, as well as being the 1st in South East Asia to obtain certification from Fogra in Validation Print Creation (VPC), was well- positioned to help ColourScan address their printing needs. Through the Fuji Xerox Confident Colour Program, the Fuji Xerox colour team provided an end-to-end colour management solution – from solution recommendation, implementation to post-implementation support for ColourScan. Case Study Colourscan Print Graphic Communications “Fuji Xerox understands our business. They provided us with a way to be able to efficiently maintain the colour consistency of our digital devices, while helping us reduce turnaround time and costs associated with the production of reference proofs.” – Richard Law, Prepress Manager, Colourscan Print Co. “Fuji Xerox Confident Colour Programme Enabled ColourScan Print to Reduce Time for Reference Proof Creation by 50%”

Background From a humble beginning in 1977 with only 7 staff, ColourScan Print (ColourScan) has grown and transformed from a local pre-press scanning production service provider to a successful and leading digital imaging solutions services provider of 170 staff with businesses in the regional commercial and advertising market and a global presence in the United States and United Kingdom.

ChallengesColourScan’s journey has not been without challenge.

Fuji Xerox with 7 FograCert Digital Print Experts, the largest team in the industry, as well as being the 1st in South East Asia to obtain certification from Fogra in Validation Print Creation (VPC), was well-positioned to help ColourScan address their printing needs.

Through the Fuji Xerox Confident Colour Program, the Fuji Xerox colour team provided an end-to-end colour management solution – from solution recommendation, implementation to post-implementation support for ColourScan.

The Fuji Xerox FograCert Digital Print Experts analyzed the colour and print related issues, and also undertook corrective actions to align print systems and processes against ISO standards. The team also proposed the best of breed solution including Fuji Xerox J75 Digital Colour Press, ORIS Press Matcher Web Colour Management solution to ColourScan.

One of the latest Fuji Xerox digital colour press, J75 provides a complete digital printing and workflow solution and is ideal for ColourScan that produces high-volume, high-value applications. The J75 offers additional productivity, running all paper stocks, including heavyweight up to 300 gsm, at full rated speed – 76 pages per minute (ppm). It also comes equipped with new tools designed to simplify the way ColourScan’s team can achieve image quality consistency and maximize their press uptime.

A special feature on the J75 Press is an automatic inline spectrophotometer system called ACQS, which delivers quick, simple monitoring and calibration. The Simple Imaging Quality Adjustment (SIQA) also helps to automate press controls for greater ease of operation.

Benefits Using the J75 and the Oris Press Matcher Web Colour Management solution, ColourScan is now able to efficiently and accurately conduct colour matching across digital, offset and inkjet devices providing customers with reference proofs which are consistent with the actual output as well as bench marked against the Fogra industry certification quality standard.

The time taken for reference proof creation has been reduced by up to 50% and customers can now see reference proofs on the actual substrates that the jobs would be printed on – all this with little change to their existing workflow. The feedback from users was that the intuitive user interface of these solutions has significantly simplified what used to be a complex process and provides a significantly better service to customers.

With the J75, the cost of printing an A4 sheet has been drastically reduced from S$3 to S$0.30. In addition, the turnaround time for printing 100 sheets of A4 sized documents has also been reduced from 3 hours to 15 minutes, resulting in significant improvement in

operator productivity and hence lower overtime costs, driving higher profits for the business. The business owners of ColourScan have also observed an increase in customer satisfaction from being better equipped to respond to their customers’ short turnaround time.

ColourScan has also managed to increase the throughput of jobs for processing and with the added ability of being able to print on a wider range of substrates. The Fuji Xerox team has also helped ColourScan achieve a standard and systematic approach to consistent colour and quality prints.
