CartoonsHow, when, what

Whats the first cartoon you remember?Lets talk!

- what age were you when you started watching cartoons? - what do you remember (story, details, characters)? - where did you watch it? on TV, on the internet?History of animated cartoonsThe first animated projection was created in France, by Charles-mile Reynaud, a French science teacher. On 28.10.1892, he projected the first animation in public, Pauvre Pierrot, at a museum in Paris.

His films were not photographed, but drawn directly onto the transparent strip. In 1900, more than 500,000 people had attended these screenings.History of animated cartoonsFrom the 1920s to 1960s, theatrical cartoons were produced in huge numbers, and usually shown before a feature film in a movie theater.

The largest studios creating these short (5-10 minutes) cartoons were Disney, Fleischer, Warner Bros. & MGM.

In 1937, Disney created the first sound and color animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

History of animated cartoons> Theatrical cartoons began their decline in the 1950s when TV became the main channel of distribution.> The Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Flintstones, was the first successful primetime animated series in the USA running from 1960-66. Other successes were Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, The Jetsons, Top Cat. They aired on Saturday mornings.> Prime Time cartoons were virtually non-existent until 1990s hit The Simpsons ushered in a new era of adult animation. Now, "adult animation" programs, such as Beavis and Butt-head, South Park, Family Guy and Futurama are a large part of television.

How are cartoons made?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qToUtpEikK8For every second of cartoon there can be up to 24 individual pictures being shown.

It is very important to record the sound and voices first so that the animators can draw matching pictures.

Every character is first drawn separately. For every movement, they have to redrawn the entire character and also the background - if it changes.

Forgotten facts about cartoons1. One woman performed tons of famous voices> The actress Mae Questel was most famous for voicing Betty Boop, but she also voiced Olive Oyl in the Popeye cartoons during the 30s and Audrey in the Little Audrey series. She was also the voice behind Casper the Friendly Ghost in at least one episode and Felix the Cat in the three sound and color episodes produced during the 30s.> She had many other appearances, most of which remained uncredited.

2. Mickey was a bad guyIn the first movies he appears in, he can be seen as a rude character or even abusing animals - in Steamboat Willie he tortures a cat, a duck and a goat, using them as musical instruments.

3. Tom and Jerry were originally called Jasper and JinxIn his first appearance in the cartoon called Puss gets boot, Tom is called Jasper by his owner, Mammy Two Shoes. Although Jerry is unnamed in the short movie, creator William Hannah stated that the original name of the mouse was Jinx. Some say that the current, famous names were inspired by WW II, when the British soldiers were called Tommies and the Germans Jerries.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfoS50vzHBw
