  • D E S C R I P T I O N : I made this stationery set for myself, maybe someday to be used if I become self employed! I also have another one that I designed for my typography class.

P R O C E S S : For this project I used mostly Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. It was fun working with those programs again since they are the ones I know how to use the best. Most of my project is made with simple shapes and basic typography tools. The logo was made using the Avenir font, which I edited with the direct selection and pen tools. Even though it is simple, I think that it works well. Plus being simple made it fun to make!

M E S S A G E : I just wanted this to be a professional, yet fun looking stationary set. It is supposed to represent me, and I am simple and fun, so I think that went over well!

A U D I E N C E : This would be aimed for anyone wanting to hire me or work with me. Mostly a younger working age group I would say.

T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : It is the little things that make all the difference! After I changed some of the little things like moving Web Design closer to my name it made everything else click. Pay attention to those little things because they will make a big difference.

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : This is a few ideas for a logo for a make believe dinosaur toy company.

P R O C E S S : This week I got to work with my favorite Adobe program, Illustrator, and it was awesome! I have used Illustrator a lot, so I felt really comfortable letting my creativity explode. I started out by sketching some of the ideas I had, keeping in mind the audience and message of my logo. I then scanned in my sketches and replicated them using the pen tool. I chose my favorite and made some variations, and I am quite pleased with how they turned out!

    M E S S A G E : I just wanted something fun and cute.

A U D I E N C E : The audience for this project, like many of my other projects, is young kids and their parents. Or just people who want to buy dinosaur toys. I fall into that group!

    T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : Dont forget to sketch! At first I tried just jumping into illustrator, but I was having a hard time getting started and getting creative. Then I remembered to sketch. That helped me a lot!

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : I made this as a tribute to my all time favorite fictional character Uncle Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender. Even though he is just a fictional character I have looked up to him ever since I first started watching Avatar, and I still do today! This is one of my favorite quotes by him that taught me to look for the good in everything around me!

P R O C E S S : I used Adobe Photoshop as the main means for this project. I started with a sweet background image of space, because that is what I thought of when reading this quote, then added a texture as an overlay over it. I then added my text and image, which I masked into the project, and another texture on top of that.

M E S S A G E : This is supposed to have an inspirational message, sharing a quote that has helped me to see the good in others and the world around me.

A U D I E N C E : This project was aimed for myself, but I believe it will appeal to other Avatar the Last Airbender fans, which is actually a pretty big group.

    T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : I still have a lot to learn about Photoshop! I am becoming more comfortable with it though.

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : For this project I wanted to do something fun and cool. I remembered going to a dinosaur park by my house growing up and how cool it was, so I wanted to make a flier for a make believe dinosaur park. I am pretty happy with the results!

P R O C E S S : This was my first time using Photoshop seriously, and there was definitely a learning curve for it. Aside from Photoshop I used a little digital camera and two dinosaur toys. I dont know if those count as tools. For the FOCUS principals I really focused on the Contrast part. I wanted to use a cool color scheme so I had to plan that out in advance, before I even took the pictures. I also had a lot of fun adjusting the values in Photoshop.

M E S S A G E : As usual I wanted to do something fun, so I made sure that I had fun during the process. It worked pretty well if I dont say so myself!

    A U D I E N C E : I was aiming for parents, especially those with elementary school aged kids.

    T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : I learned how to use Photoshop! Well, a little bit. I still got a lot of learning to do before I am good with it.

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : This is an instructional pamphlet that I made to help all of you out there who want to train your own dinosaur!

P R O C E S S : I made the logo featured on the back on Adobe Illustrator. If you want to know more about that process you can read about it in my logo project. For most of the rest of the pamphlet I used InDesign. I also used Photoshop to clip my images to avoid the icky backgrounds (except for the Jurassic World raptor training picture, because it is awesome just the way it is). I started out by making a paper prototype and sketching out my layout. That made going digital so much easier! All I had to do was measure my paper and it all came together ready to print just the way I wanted!

    M E S S A G E :The message is simple, this is how to train a raptor.

A U D I E N C E : I designed this one for myself and anyone like me who would like to train a dinosaur, or who at least thinks that this is funny. Mostly college age people who liked Jurassic World.

T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : Preparation! I worked hard with my paper prototype to get the measurements correct, and with my digital copy to make sure that everything was looking the way I wanted. Because of this I only had to print once!

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : This is a flier I made for an imaginary 5K to benefit a charity called Reading is Fundamental

P R O C E S S : The only program I used for this project was Microsoft Word. The image was scanned in from a picture I bought at ComicCon in Salt Lake last January.

    M E S S A G E : I wanted the message to be fun and lighthearted.

    A U D I E N C E : My primary audience was runners and parents of elementary school age kids.

T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : The top thing that I learned during this assignment is how to use Microsoft Word to make a flier like this. It was definitely different than some of the programs that I am used to, but it worked well.

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : This is my first project for my COMM 130 class. All of the images, logos, and text were provided, but the design is all mine!

P R O C E S S : I created this using Adobe InDesign, and pretty much just the pen, rectangle, and ellipse tools. I tried to incorporate the FOCUS process into this design. I formulated who my audience is, and what message I wanted to send to them. I tried to focus a lot on my alignment because I have had a hard time with that in the past. To unify my project I tried to make sure that I had some repetition with the lines and circles. I had to change a few parts of my design after receiving some critiques.

M E S S A G E : I wanted this flier to look professional, but interesting. My message is basically Come to this leadership conference because it will help you improve your skills, and keep you entertained!

    A U D I E N C E : I geared this towards college age, and just graduate college students.

T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : I think that the most important thing that I learned from this project is that the FOCUS process really helps to improve my designs. I will be using it outside this class for sure!

  • D E S C R I P T I O N : This is a web page that I made for my class! I thought it was pretty swanky! Sorry about the lines, I had to take three separate screen shots and stitch them together on Photoshop and I dont know how to take them off. Also the alphabet dealio was something I used to see if I had the right text line size. The ideal reading line is two and a half alphabets long. It is not in my final file.

P R O C E S S : I used text wrangler to make all the code for this website dealio. I started out just making the HTML page, which was pretty easy. I was lucky enough that it went without too many mistakes. The next thing that I did was make the CSS page and get my site looking the way I wanted to. I had fun doing that, and tried some new things, like using Google fonts and using an image for the background. I made the background image in Illustrator.

M E S S A G E : I wanted this site to just be a nice comfortable way to learn how I went about making my logo. I guess the message is read this and have fun!

    A U D I E N C E : This is geared towards starting out designers!

    T O P T H I N G L E A R N E D : The web is full of possibilities!
