introduction

Best known for:

she was a scientist who taught people the dangers of pesTIcides.

3 Key qualities:

studious

compassionate

curious

What I find interesting:

she had the courage to tell people to not use dangerous pesTicides.

I CHOSE THIS PERSON BECAUSE...

she likes nature and i do too.

FAMOUS QUOTATION:

one way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, 'what If I had never seen this before? what if i knew i would never see it again?'

rachel's family was important to her. her father died and the year after her sister died. she had to take care of her mother.

I think I would be really sad if my dad and my sister died. I would have to take care of my pets.

she cared about nature and she kept working on helping the earth stay healthy. She was a scientist and used her knowledge to write books and arTicles about how to take care of nature. One of her most famous books was about pesticides.

I think it is important to care about nature because we want to keep the earth healthy.

RACHEL felt brave enough to tell people to care about nature and to understand the dangers of chemicals.

I feel like if i saw someone being sprayed by ddt, i'd feel scared. i feel bad for the person because they think the spray is getting rid of mosquitoes, but it's actually hurting people.

Page 6: carsonat

rachel decided to write a book about how pesticides hurt living things. THE BOOK IS CALLED SILENT SPRING. she said that people shouLd be careful how they use them.

Page 7: carsonat

people don't use ddt for keeping away bugs anymore.

i think that she changed what FARMERS AND COMPANIES thought about using the most dangerous pesticides.

I'm A change maker when I...

notice dangerous things and I help fix them. FOR EXAMPLE, I

FOUND A PUNCH BALLOON IN OUR SCHOOL CREEK. IT INSPIRED OUR

CLASS TO NOT LITTER AND DESIGN A PARTY THAT WAS

ECO-FRIENDLY.

I'm Similar to my change maker because:

I like taking care of nature and helping the earth.

My Change maker is connected to jane goodall

because she studies animals.
