MAAS says it joined FirstNet to tap into unique benefits the dedicated communications platform brings to publicsafety: Traditional public safety networks don’t support apps and video, but FirstNet does. This can enable MAAS touse data in new ways.

After Hurricane Michael devastated communities along Florida’s gulf coast and throughout South Georgia,MetroAtlanta Ambulance deployed ambulance units to help evacuate patients from Bay Medical Sacred HeartHospital in Panama City, FL. Using FirstNet, MAAS crews were in constant communication with its dispatch center innorth Georgia as well as the transferring hospital in Panama City, FL. “With so many users trying to make cellularcalls during that time, an open line of communication likely wouldn’t have been available without FirstNet,” saysQuinones.

extend anything.” According to Hudson Valley One, the only way to improve coverage in suffering areas would be tohave new towers installed, but the town is expected to raise opposition to that solution. Continue Reading

Amazon’s Floating Warehouse: Drone-Delivered to Your Doorstep

Known for its willingness to adopt new technology, Amazon already delivers merchandise via drone. Going one stepfurther, Amazon may have plans to bring consumers the entire store, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Arecently filed patent confirms the e-commerce giant envisions "aerial fulfillment centers," (or AFC's) drifting across theskies as drones flit about making deliveries.

Essentially an AFC is a warehouse that is held aloft and propelled by a blimp. According to the patent, “An AFC maybe positioned at an altitude above a metropolitan area and be designed to maintain an inventory of items that may bepurchased by a user and delivered to the user by an ‘unmanned aerial vehicle’ or UAV that is deployed from theAFC."

Picture a blimp hive with worker bee drones, ahem, flying in and out delivering packages. Whether or not Amazonever constructs aerial fulfillment centers is anyone's guess but credit them for continuing to find new ways to delivergoods to consumers.
