with the latest improvements in Customer Service and Purchasing. Shown at left, the new offices include upgraded work stations and high speed cabling, which were put in place to continue Carr Lane’s efforts toward an improved customer experience.

Jib Crane Makes Loading of Tooling Plates An Easy Task

Earlier this year, Carr Lane’s Regional Sales Managers were called to St. Louis for an annual sales meeting at which time each received a new iPad device as part of the company’s continuing efforts to expand communication efforts with customers. Special training was provided all week on the new device, and culminated in a creative scavenger hunt around the Greater St. Louis Area.

Tony Christopher must strike a “surreptitious pose with three dead bodies” at the St. Louis Art Museum.

Working in teams, sales managers had to use their iPad devices to search for some well-known and not-so-well-known St. Louis landmarks using various clues such as “find the building with a school bus dangling from its roof.” Once the landmark location was found, the teams had to travel to the location and use their iPad to photograph the landmark. They then had to email the photograph back to Carr Lane staff. Points were awarded for the complexity of finding the landmark as well as arriving back at Carr Lane headquarters in time. In the end, everyone had a great time with the training exercise. Congratulations to Jim Miller and Mike Madden, the winning team! As an incentive, Jim and Mike each received a beautiful Carr Lane Lands’ End fleece jacket.

Carr Lane added a new piece of equipment earlier this month. The new Hardinge Super Precision Quest GT27 turning center will allow for faster hard turning production of several of Carr Lane’s most popular items including round pins, diamond pins, Carr LockTM clamps, rest buttons, and screw rest pads. The new GT27 joins two other Hardinge machines already in use for hard turning.

Lockheed Martin RecognizesTwo Years of Great Service

Congratulations to Carr Lane employees, whose efforts helped us win the following award for the second year in a row. Lockheed Martin has recognized Carr Lane for having 100% On Time Delivery and Zero Quality Defects in 2012.

Carr Lane’s new jib crane was mentioned in the last issue, after the concrete base was poured, and the February installation went well. At left, Manufacturing Engineer Aaron Hull uses the crane’s system of chains to lift a tooling plate weighing 300 lbs. The crane has a maximum weight capacity of 1000 lbs., a 16' span, and a 360° rotation.

The aerospace industry is an important niche market for Carr Lane, and Lockheed Martin is one of the world’s top aerospace companies. We are honored by the award shown at right, and proud of it.
