You may have noticed
that your piano is getting
a lot of extra attention
lately. Recital practice
has begun!
After spring break, stu-
dents selected their piec-
es for our upcoming recit-
al. They are hard at work,
making sure they have all
the musical details con-
quered and ready for
their performances on
June 11.
Invite your friends and
family to this event.
There are four recital
groups, so you can signup
for a time that will work
with your schedule. Plan
to arrive 10 minutes
early. We will start and
end on time. Presentation
of certificates and a short
reception follows each
recital group. Please
bring a plate of goodies
to share. Thank you for
supporting your student
and our studio!

A comprehensive series of skill tests run on 5,154 fifth-graders found that kids who were
learning to play an instrument received higher marks than their classmates who were not.
The longer the children had been in the instrumental programs, the higher they scored.
(The American Music Conference)
Regardless of socio-economic background, according to a ten-year study that tracked more
than 25,000 students, music-making students get higher marks on standardized tests than
those who have no music involvement. (Catterall, 2002)
The College Entrance Examination board found that students in music programs scored 63
points higher on the verbal and 44 points higher on the math sections of the SATs than
students with no music participation. (The College Entrance Examination Board, 2001)

September 2016-June 2017 Schedule
Just a reminder, the Evergreen School
District has changed the school hours for
next year so you may need to change
your lesson time. On the form, there is a
place to indicate schedule changes, if
needed.
If you have questions or concerns please
contact me directly. Thank you!
Parents …. Next week you will receive a
form to help with scheduling require-
ments for the 2016-2017 academic
year.
Please take the time to read and fill out
the form and return it by June 1st.
Please indicate if your student will con-
tinue lessons next year (and I sincerely
hope that the answer to that is “YES”).

MUSIC is a
more potent
instrument
than any other
for education,
because
rhythm and
harmony find
their way into
the inward
places of the
soul. - Plato
In our upcoming June recital, every adult
audience member will have the opportuni-
ty to write a positive comment to each
student about his performance. Paper
and pencils will be supplied. Letting a
student know that you appreciated their
dynamics, tone or artistry at the piano will
validate and encourage them immensely!
It is human nature to want to feel suc-
cessful and be praised for doing well.
Piano students, after many hours of
practice, are delighted with audience
applause and positive comments about
their recital performances. Encouraging
words boost self-acceptance and set the
tone for future lessons, practice, and
recitals.
