About The Adventures of Snigel

The Adventures of Snigel was created with dancer and choreographer Caroline Bowditch and theatre designer Laura Hook to produce a promenade piece of dance theatre for children that included a disabled performer, given the current lack of this kind of work. Created with sound designer and musician Zac Scott, the piece is designed to respond directly to it’s surroundings be it in a park, a busy festival or large indoor space.

In 2017, Caroline will be working with Imaginate on Weren’t you Expecting Me?, a year long project exploring the impact, if any, on the live performance experience of disabled and non disabled children. For more information, please visit http://www.carolinebowditch.com/werent-you-expecting-me.html. It may be possible to organize add on talks and events exploring this theme.

In 2017, Caroline and Laura have also created the accompanying static piece Snigel and Friends with Zac Scott and dancers Welly O’Brien and Alex McCabe. For more information about Caroline’s work, visit www.carolinebowditch.com

Age RecommendationThe piece is ideal for children aged up to 8 years old but can be enjoyed by children (and adults!) of any age.

DurationBeing a responsive promenade piece, the duration of each journey may vary. Generally, each journey lasts 20 – 30 minutes.

TerminologyThis piece has been created to be gender neutral so please always refer the Snigel as ‘they’ rather than ‘he’ or ‘she’.

In between sections, Snigel will move to a new site encouraging the children to follow them to the next place.

In festival settings it is possible to interact with other performers on site, preferably agreed in advance but we have also done this off the cuff.

For more technical information, please refer to the tech pack.

FOH requirements

The Adventures of Snigel is very self sufficient with it’s team of 4 people. However, we may require extra assistance when performing in indoor spaces, to wipe up any residue from bubbles on the floor, to prevent a slip hazard
