Regardless of major, our students graduate with

outstanding quantitative, verbal, and written skills

that prepare them for persuasion, negotiation, and

collaboration—the cornerstones of successful business

relationships. With access to the top-ranking Chicago

Booth and to an economics faculty that includes Nobel

laureates, UChicago students enjoy a vibrant Core

curriculum plus attractive internship and research

opportunities to help them thrive in both the classroom

and the boardroom.

Pre-Business Professional Advising Team

UChicago Career Advising and Planning Services (CAPS)

provides the preparation, connections, and opportunities for

students to pursue their career goals. CAPS has a staff of

pre-business advisors with more than 75 years of combined

experience in business. These experts advise College students,

regardless of major, once they determine they have an interest

in business.

Recruiting on Campusn The on-Campus Recruiting Program brings representa-

tives from many top business and consulting organizations

to campus to interview students for summer internships

and full-time opportunities. The pre-business advisors

help identify internship opportunities and create targeted

application materials as well as prepare students for inter-

views. CAPS hosts hundreds of organizations on campus

through its recruiting program and career fairs. Additional

organizations recruit via University of Chicago–specific job

postings, resulting in thousands of internship and full-time

opportunities for students. These encompass a wide range

of business careers—including investment banking, consult-

ing, marketing, and general management—in locations

across the United States and around the world.

n The Recruiting Immersion Camp is a two-day intensive

workshop designed to build resume-writing, interviewing,

and networking skills, as well as bolster self-confidence as

students prepare for their job searches. It is open to

all students.

Career and Internship fairs

CAPS hosts three large-scale career fairs on campus each

year for students looking for internships or full-time jobs. Many

company representatives conduct interviews with students

either during or immediately following career fairs.

Career Exploration opportunitiesTaking the Next Step

Each January, the College holds a daylong career planning

event for all second- and third-year students. Students attend

panel presentations with alumni from around the world and a

keynote address by a prominent alumni speaker. Hundreds of

alumni attend this event to discuss the ways in which they have

put their UChicago educations to use.

Alumni Board of governors Externship Program

Through the Alumni Board of Governors (ABG) Externship

Program, students spend two to three days of their spring break

shadowing alumni at their places of employment, including the

Chicago Board of Trade, Citigroup, Federal reserve Bank of

Chicago, Pfizer, the Wall Street Journal, and ZS Associates.

Jeff metcalf fellows Program

Each year, the Jeff Metcalf Fellows Program provides over 400

UChicago undergraduates with paid, substantive internship

opportunities in a wide range of fields, across the country and

around the world. Metcalf Fellows explore career fields and

gain work experience, increasing their marketability and value

to future employers.

Alumni Careers Network

The Alumni Careers Network (ACN) is an online database of

University of Chicago alumni who have volunteered to provide

career-related informational interviews to students and other

alumni. Alumni of the College, graduate divisions, and profes-

sional schools participate in this vast and growing global net-

work. Many graduates report that their most valuable career

advice comes from other alumni. In addition to offering infor-

mation about career options, employment conditions, and job

responsibilities, alumni recount their experiences translating

their UChicago educations into rewarding careers.

Chicago Careers in BusinessThe selective Chicago Careers in Business (CCIB) program

supplements the College’s influential liberal arts curriculum

with the world-class resources of Chicago Booth and

UChicago’s global network of business leaders. The CCIB

program includes professional advising, mentorship from

fourth-year CCIB and Chicago Booth students, weekly

workshops, and courses at Chicago Booth.

Chicago Booth Course Enrollment

It is a distinct advantage for College students to have access

to courses taught in the University’s graduate and profes-

sional schools, such as Chicago Booth, which is renowned for

producing leaders and ideas that have shaped the world of

business since 1898. Undergraduate students may register for

up to six business school courses during their College career.

Chicago Booth Scholars Program

Chicago Booth offers an early admission program exclu-

sively for College students. The Chicago Booth Scholars

Program encourages College students to apply during their

fourth year at no fee. Those who are accepted defer atten-

dance for one to three years, during which time they are

expected to work in an environment that will provide “qual-

ity and substantive experience positioning them to succeed

at Chicago Booth.”

CAPS ProgrammingIn addition to the CCIB program, CAPS also offers a spe-

cialized track of monthly programs for students interested

in business careers. Exploring Careers in Business includes

sessions that highlight everything from business career

exploration to how to secure a full-time job or internship in

business. Additional programs and services offered each

quarter include:

n Regular industry-specific workshops give students the

opportunity to learn about myriad opportunities in the

business world, such as corporate rotational programs,

marketing, banking, and consulting.

n Business skills programs offer training on general skills

necessary for success in the business world. These skill-

building programs cover such topics as Microsoft Excel,

valuation, and financial analysis training.

n Professionalism programs help students polish their

overall interviewing, networking, and presentation skills.

n Interview preparation services are available online and

in person at CAPS. Practice interviewers who specialize in

a variety of industries are available by appointment, so

students can have firsthand experiences in an interview

setting, receiving constructive feedback and advice.

Practice interviewers conduct behavioral, traditional, or

case interviews. They also offer their services at day-

long events during the academic year. Students can

practice interviews online through InterviewStream,

where a CAPS staff member provides feedback and

assistance electronically.

n Individual counseling with CAPS staff is available for

students interested in business. CAPS advisors special-

ize in working either with students who have a broad

range of interests or with those who are focused on

specific industries.
