    Whether youre looking or a promotion or just looking to improve your jobperormance in your current role, keeping yoursel on track is key to a suc-cessul career. Moving up can be a challenge but implementing a ew smalchanges can get you noticed in a positive light and push you to be the bestyou can be in your feld.

    #1 Go the extra mile Take the time to go above and beyondthe duties assigned in your job description. Whether you take onextra assignments or volunteer to head a new project, these op-portunities have their benefts. You could fnd ways to learn new skillsets or gain a greater understanding o your role, the company andhow it impacts the industry.

    #2 Collaborate Being a team player is important to succeed-ing in any business. In a team environment, its important to contin-ue to ask questions and collaborate with your colleagues. Many areprobably subject matter experts (SMEs) in the business, and manytimes these individuals are willing to share their knowledge withyou. One o the best ways to learn the business is to associate withpeople who know the business and listen to them.

    #3 Pinpoint the essentials Work smart. This means pinpoint-ing the areas within your job that are essential to your group and tothe company. Once these have been identifed, ocus most o yourresources in those areas. Take some time to look at your job andunderstand what parts o it are the most essential to others bothinside and outside your work group. I you can pinpoint those impor-tant areas, you become the person who people come to when thingsneed to get done.

    #4 Establish goals Take the time to write your career goalsdown. Think about what you want to achieve in your career and ipossible, give yoursel a deadline. Your goals can be ocused on your

    long-term career success or on next months project. While you maynot always reach them, writing down specifc goals will get you a lotcloser to them than not doing so.

    #5 Love what you do There is nothing better than to get upevery morning knowing that you like doing your job. Its also mucheasier to seek career opportunities when you love what you do be-cause the energy and enthusiasm you have or your job tends to beinectious and draw people to you.
