Distinguished Foundation Professor Steve Soper researches “lab on a chip” technologies that can help diagnose and treat diseases. This research largely focuses on the development of biomedical devices, and the as-sociated assays. It seeks to pinpoint diagnostics for cancer, stroke and infectious diseases, and bring di-agnostics to the point-of-care.KU Bioengieneering is

characterized by an en-trepreneurial spirit and has an established track record of start-up suc-cess. This includes the first publicly-traded company with origins at KU, Sa-vara, which produces an aerosolized treatment for cystic fibrosis. It’s a spin-off from the laboratory of Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Chemical & Petroleum Engineering, Cory Berk-land.

KU’s 280,000 square-foot Integrated Science Building will be home to world-class labo-ratory and classroom space for cutting-edge research in bioengineering, chem-istry, medicinal chemistry, physics, molecular biosci-ences, and related fields. It will provide new ways for stu-dents to interact with instructors and classmates and offer close integration of their undergrad-uate studies with cutting-edge research activity.

OverviewFrom cancer treatment and tissue engineering to improved drug delivery and concussion testing, KU’s bioengineering program is helping students to find cures, promote well being, and build healthy communities. KU offers an undergraduate certificate and an accelerated pathway to a graduate degree through the chemical or mechanical engineering programs. ➙See more: bio.engr.ku.edu.
