For this project…you are going to research one of the careers revealed in the Career Interest Survey that you took. You will find and take notes ona job description, the job responsibilities, the education/ training requirements,and the personal characteristics a person must have to be successful in the career.Remember to record the web address where you find your information.

You will create a PowerPoint based on your research and next nine weeks, you’ll write an actual research paper.

● Combines Forensics and Psychiatry

● Forensics, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, means “relating to the use of scientific knowledge or methods in solving crimes.”

● Psychiatry, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “a branch of [the medical field] that deals with mental or emotional disorders.”

● Essentially, a Forensic Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who applies their speciality of mental/emotional disorders to help in the legal system.

What exactly does a Forensic Psychiatrist do?

Parental competency evaluations

Psychiatric disability evaluation for worker's compensation or personal injury cases

Psychiatric malpractice and negligence evaluation

Assessment of acquittal for insanity plea

How does someone become a forensic psychiatrist?Educational Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree (4 year degree)

● Medical degree (4 year degree)

Practicum:

● Psychiatry residency (3 -4 years)

● Forensic psychiatry fellowship (1-2 years)

Licensure & Certification:● State medical license required to

practice medicine (Board Certification)

Other Requirements:● Continuing Medical Education

(CME) credit to maintain licensure and board certification after residency

● DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances
