COUNTY COLLEGE of M ORRIS What You Will Learn The A.S. degree in Exercise Science at County College of Morris (CCM) is based on the American College of Sports Medicine’s recommended education competencies and prepares the students for a career in health and fitness- related fields. Graduates with an Exercise Science degree can perform fitness and health assessments and prescribe nutrition and training regimens. Upon completion of the degree in Exercise Science, students are prepared to sit for a national certification in personal training, yoga, Pilates, group fitness, health and fitness instruction, and wellness coaching. Transfer to four year schools provide additional opportunities in careers such as Exercise Physiology. Exercise physiologists develop fitness and exercise programs that help patients recover from chronic diseases and improve cardiovascular function, body composition and flexibility. A certificate in Personal Training provides opportunities to work in fitness and recreational sports centers, as self-employed workers and in civic and social organizations. A Personal Trainer Certificate of Achievement at CCM provides entry-level training for those interested in a career as a personal fitness trainer. Fitness trainers and instructors lead, instruct and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercises (exercises for the heart and blood circulation), strength training and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels. Medicine (ACSM), the American Council on Exercise (ACE) or the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). It is also recognized by the New Jersey Department of Higher Education.

Why Study Exercise Science And Personal Training At CCM?Student success is our mission and the faculty at CCM are qualified and passionate educators. Faculty share their current and past career experiences, allowing students to connect learning to the real-world workplace. Our professors have either masters or doctorate degrees in their respective areas of study. Our students are also able to enjoy small classroom sizes, a wireless campus, and comfortable and modern classrooms. Opportunities abound for student involvement in clubs and organizations, community service and internships.

The Exercise Science laboratory provides hands-on experience using computerized state-of-the-art metabolic equipment, bioelectrical impedance analysis equipment, cycle ergometers, medical treadmills, ECG equipment, spirometers, skinfold calipers and sphygmomanometers.

Where You Can Go!The Exercise Science Degree is designed for transfer and also prepares graduates for various positons in the fitness sector including exercise physiology, fitness/wellness management, and strength and conditioning coaching.

CCM has articulation agreements for Exercise Science with the following universities:

• William Paterson University

• East Stroudsburg University

• Bloomsburg University

The 2018 median salary for an Exercise Physiologists with a Bachelor’s degree is $49,270.

Job Outlook for personal trainers for 2018-2028 is good and expected to grow 13% (much faster than average).
