The Good Universities Guide – Education and Training for a Dentist

To become a dentist, you usually have to complete a degree in dentistry, dental science

or dental surgery at university. Alternatively, you can complete a degree in a related field

followed by a postgraduate qualification in dentistry, dental surgery or dental medicine.

Prerequisite subjects, or assumed knowledge, in one or more of English, mathematics,

This year’s edition has identified four key trends: Labour market conditions are strong — employment is up by a robust 403,300

industries with large numbers of young workers include Retail Trade (around 386,000), Accommodation and Food Services (385,000) and Construction (175,000).

Australia’s industry structure is changing — today, more than three in every four Australian workers are employed in a service industry, with much of the growth driven by Health Care and Social Assistance.

There are now more jobs for higher skilled workers — the majority of employment growth over the past five years has been in occupations that generally require post-school qualifications, and this trend is likely to continue.

7. Job Spotlight Construction – Part 3 Were you the kid who loved lego and building forts in the yard? If you love building, creating and working with your hands then a career in construction might be a good fit. Rather than pick just one career in construction, we’re going to take a good look at 5 different jobs over the next 5 weeks. Whether you’re building a house or an airport, just about every trade is represented on each worksite so it’s smart to get an idea of how they all fit together. Check out the Construction Bullseye from MyFuture here. Crane operator Construction is about much more than just residential homes. On the big worksites, cranes are essential pieces of kit that can lift, move and carefully place materials and resources in the right locations. Video – Just the Job, Crane Operator Qualified crane operators are in demand in many places across Australia where the building industry is booming. There are lots of different types of cranes, and the tasks you’ll be doing vary depending on the type of worksite you’re working on, and the industry you’re working in. The downsides can be the long shifts (often 10 to 12 hours), the noise, and the low levels of contact with other people (you literally spend most of your work day stuck in a tower in the sky). Salary: There was some conflicting advice about pay – SkillsVic say that the average pay is $102,472, and Glassdoor list it as $83,040. Starting salaries may be slightly lower than this amount, and there is potential for you to go on to own your own equipment and start your own business (which could significantly increase your salary). Job Prospects: It depends on your location, and on the level of construction going on. SkillsVic list the job prospects as poor, but when I searched on Seek I found 152 jobs currently listed across Australia. Qualifications: Most states require you to have a High Risk Work Licence (see the NSW version here) and you’ll need to find an RTO offering formal HRW licence training. You can also undertake a traineeship or study for a Certificate at TAFE. Where do I start? Community service as important as ATAR for Year 12s in ANU overhaul The nation's highest-achieving year 12 students will no longer be guaranteed a spot at the Australian National University under a significant overhaul of its ATAR admissions process launching in 2020. In a new scheme designed to diversify the university's ranks, school leavers will be asked to meet a minimum threshold of community service and extra-curricular activity such as working part-time, playing sport or volunteering, on top of achieving the right score for their degree. After the Siren - workshop for student athletes 31 July at the Gold Coast, and 2 August at Nathan campus 'After the Siren' is a free workshop for developing and elite level high school students who excel in their sport. Melbourne University News Information Day for Interstate Students The University of Melbourne would like to invite Queensland students to attend our Information Day for interstate students at our Parkville campus on Thursday 12 July 9:00am – 6:00pm. The day will focus on aspects of the university that are of greater concern to interstate students such as the application process, scholarships, student services, accommodation options and financial assistance. Participants will have an opportunity to ask current University of Melbourne students who have come from interstate about their experience and how they managed the transition. The program will also include a campus tour followed by a free lunch at one of the residential colleges and a college tour. Optional additional accommodation tours will take place after the official program has ended.
