Pre-retirement workshops

A pre-retirement workshop will be running on 17th January 2017 at Penston House, Macmerry (9.30am - 4pm). Forward planning is advisable when making

any major change and retirement is no exception. These workshops are suitable for those who think they might like to retire within the next couple of years or so.

financial security now and in the future.

Some comments from delegates who have attended these workshops are:

“I thought I had sorted my retirement plans, now I realise I need to rethink

them.”

“It was really helpful to discuss things with others in the same position, it gave me a different perspective and good ideas.”

Professional Update Briefing Sessions These briefings are for teachers and GTC Registrants working in any setting

within East Lothian Council. The briefing will last approximately 1–1.5 hours from 4.30–6.00pm and will be facilitated by David Graham, GTCS Area

Regional advisor, Jay Glacken, EIS Learning Rep and Margo Cunningham, Training & Development officer Education.

PRD3 28th February 4.30–6.00pm, venue TBC

PRD4 29th March 4.30–6.00pm, venue TBC

To book a place please email [email protected] quoting the appropriate course reference.

An annual update of contact details to GTC Scotland

It is a condition of Professional Update and your registration that you keep your address contact details up-to-date as you can be removed from the register if

you do not do this. The easiest way to do this is to create a MyGTCS account, if you have not already done so. Applying for an account is easy and only takes

minutes. To create an account go to www.gtcs.org.uk/mygtcs Once you have created your account you will be able to access and modify your personal details

which are held on the GTCS teaching register.

Is your sign-off year 2015-16?

It is the responsibility of the teacher/registrant to ensure they know their sign-off year. There is an expectation from the GTC that the majority of sign-offs will

have taken place by the 1st July 2016. There may be a variety of reasons as to why this has not been possible, for example you may have been awaiting SQA

results, there may have been a change in staffing.

17

Within East Lothian unless there are exceptional circumstances the date set locally for completion of your Professional Update is the 15th September. The

final date for sign-off to the GTC is the 31st October 2016.

A list of teachers who are due for sign-off for 2015-16 is held by the Training & Development Officer, Education.

Who is due to sign-off in 2016–17?

Teachers/registrants will be required to complete Professional Update on a 5-yearly cycle as follows:

2016/2017 – registration years ending in a 1 or a 6

2017/2018 – registration years ending in a 2 or a 7 2018/2019 – registration years ending in a 3 or an 8

If you have not already begun recording your professional learning, you must

begin recording your learning as there is an expectation that learning has been recorded from August 2014, even if your sign-off is not until a later year. If

you have requested a deferral for 2015-16 you will be due to sign-off in 2016 -17 by the 1st July 2017.

Deferrals

Should you need to request a deferral for maternity leave, long-term sickness absence or a career break please discuss if this with your reviewer. More information can be found in Professional Update Guide for Reviewees section 5.7

Bring Forward your Professional Update

This is designed for those teachers/registrants who are about to retire and wish to bring forward their Professional Update year which will allow them to

undertake supply teaching in the future. More information can be found in Professional Update Guide for Reviewees section 5.8
