INTRODUCTIONCare Nepal, like any other International Non
Government Organization(INGO) in Nepal, operates through a basic agreement with Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal that allows it to implement various community development projects and programs in the country. These projects and programs are guided by the government’s priorities.
MISSIONFrom the high Himalayas to the plains of the
Terai, Care Nepal facilitate the empowerment of poor , vulnerable and socially excluded people to live in peaceful and harmonious society and fulfill their basic needs and achieve social justice.
This will be attained through: Addressing social, cultural and political
discrimination. Utilizing available resources Sustainable economic development

GOALCare Nepal began working in Nepal in
1978.The early focus was on improving infrastructure in remote areas and agriculture extension activities and now its programs are in wide range and promote equitable and sustainable livelihood by addressing the causes, rather than the symptoms of poverty and social injustice.

ministries and departments such as Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Local Development, Ministry of Forest and Social Conservation just to name the few. Care Nepal is also an active member of the Association of International NGOs(AIN).
Contd…CARE Nepal is currently working in
partnership with over 80 local NGOs, 10 different networks and approximately 1000 community based organizations.
Today, CARE Nepal operates in 46 districts, with a major focus on mid and far-western regions, through 24 community development programs and national initiatives.
The major objective of the project is to contribute towards poverty reduction and empowerment of highly marginalized janajatis in Nepal and to promote and protect political, economical, social and cultural rights.
Programming Principles CARE Nepal formulated six guiding
programming principles to fulfill its organizational level Vision and Mission. Such principles are mandatory and should be conformed in entirety.
Principle 1: Promote Empowerment• Care Nepal helps poor and marginalized
people, and support their efforts to take control of their own lives and fulfill their rights and responsibilities.
Contd…Principle 2: Work with partnersThe main purpose of doing partnership is to
maximize the impact of programe which are able to adopt effective programming on a larger scale and who have responsibility to fulfill rights and reduce poverty through policy change and enforcement.
Principle3: Ensure Accountability and Promote Responsibility
CARE Nepal support and encourage the poor and marginalized people whose rights are denied to fulfill their responsibilities.
Contd…Principle4: Address DiscriminationIt address discrimination and denial of rights
based on sex, race, nationality, ethnicity, class, religion, age, physical ability, caste, opinion or sexual orientation.
Principle5: Promote the Non-violent Resolution of Conflicts
CARE promotes non-violent means to prevent and resolve conflicts at all levels, which may lead to poverty and denial of rights.

ensure our programs result in lasting and fundamental improvements in the lives of the poor and marginalized people.
Major ActivitiesThe project conducts various activities towards
achieving its objectives in a best possible manner. It has propounded four major activities for the projects:
Raising awareness and building capacity of highly marginalized janajatis(HMJ)people on social, cultural and identity issues
Conducting participatory assessments to identify economic opportunities for HMJs and supporting them to utilize those opportunities with focus on women and youth groups
