1.URL Care Nepal IMS is an online Information Management System hosted in the URL

http://careims.softwel.com.np. It contains data of Existing Water Supply Projects and Newly identified

Water Sources.

1. Homepage The screenshot of the Care IMS homepage is as shown below. The homepage “Home” has downloadable

link of Android Tablet Software “SW-MAP” which will redirect to the Android Play Store. SW-Map is a

generic GIS/Data Collection Software developed by Softwel (P) Ltd. Each Project has its own need so

different template is required for data-collection. For Care Nepal IMS, two different templates has been

designed for data collection i.e. “Existing Source Template” for already existing water supply projects

and “New Source Template” for new water supply sources.

2. Login Click on the login button located on the right of the homepage menu to load login page. Please type in

the login credentials provided to you by Care IMS administrator and Press login button to log in into the

system.

As you login, you can see the right top menu changes which shows “Logged in As” information. Click on

the “Cog Wheel” Icon which shows link to change your password and log out from the Care Nepal IMS

System.

3. Project Data Please click on “Project Data” link on Homepage to see the Project data in detail. Please select Project

Type “New Source” or “Existing Project” and Select “District”.

Then Click on “List Projects” to display the list of Projects. Please click on “Edit button” to View/Edit

details of the Project.

For Instance, corresponding “Edit” button on the row of first Project “aacharyagau khanepani” is

clicked and it will load a page which displays all the details of the selected Project. By Default

“Project” Tab is selected and Projects details properties are displayed. You can see other

information like Functionality Framework, Sustainability Framework, Water Source etc. You can Edit

and Save the changes once you are logged with your credentials.

4. View Map Click on “View Map” link on Homepage to load the browsable GIS Map with all the Water Supply

Projects. The snapshot of map is attached below. On the Left Side of the Map, it displays all the layers

and legends of the map. Plese check/uncheck the layer to toggle the display of the layer as per your

need. Click on the ‘+’ sign to see the legend of the layer. On the right side of the map, there are handy

tools to navigate and use the functionality of the map i.e Click on the “Print” Icon to print the map.

The last two Tools with search Icon and New Icon are for displaying the list of Existing Projects and New

Sources respectively.

Please Click on “Search Icon” to see the list of “Existing Project”. Please Select the Project and Click” Go

To Project” button the zoom to the selected Project. If you are logged in, you can see “Edit Project”

button as well.

5. Edit Map Click on the “Edit Project” to load Map Editor which allows to edit the Project location, water

distribution pipe, taps location, Reservoir.

5.1. For Editing Point Type Feature (Project, Tap, Reservoir, Water Source,

Structure) i. Choose the layer on the left by clicking the radio button.

ii. select the respective feature on the map by clicking on it.

iii. Press your left mouse button and drag the feature to change the location.

iv. Release your mouse left button once you move the feature to the desired location.

v. Press “Save” button located on top right to save the changes.

5.2. For Line Type Feature (Pipe) i. Choose the pipe layer on the left by clicking the radio button.

ii. select the respective feature on the map by clicking on it. The selected feature will be

highlighted.

iii. The highlighted feature will show all the vertex points of the pipe.

iv. You can drag and change the vertex location to change the alignment of the pipe.

v. To add new vertex, click in a pipe line between two vertex points where you want to add a new

vertex.

vi. To delete a vertex, press shift key in the keyboard and click on the vertex point which you want

to delete.

vii. Press “Save” button located on top right to save the changes.

5.3. For Line Type Feature (Pipe) Buttons on the left top are for adding the features on

the map.

i. To add new Point Type Feature, press on the Icon Button and the click on the map where you

want to add the feature.

ii. You can update the feature attribute listed on the left menu.

iii. Click on “Save” button to save the changes you made on map.

For Line Type Feature(Pipe)

i. Press on the Pipe Icon on left top and click on the map to locate the start pointof the pipe.

ii. Move mouse cursor on the map and click to the add next vertex for the pipe. A straight line will

be drawn between the initial point and last point and then repeat the process until you are done

with drawing a complete pipe.

iii. Then double click on the vertex point to end the process of drawing pipe.

6. Administrator Menu If you are logged in as Administrator, you can see following in your menu.

6.1. Sync Tablet Data Data Uploaded by Enumerators are stored on the in-transit folder. Click on “Sync Tablet Data” to

copy the data from in-transit folder to the live database.

6.2. User Registration Click on the “User Registration” to Add/Update Users. It will load the User Registration and User Details

Page. The snapshot of “User Registration” page is attached below.

APPENDIX

Field Operation Manual for Data Collection using SW MAPS for CARE IMS water supply

projects

I. Creating New Project

1. Press the plus button to open the Create Project dialog.

2. Enter the name of the new project and press Create. The following dialog will then appear.

3. Now Import the desired preloaded template by selecting “Import Template” and select the

desired template (Care IMS existing or Care IMS New).

4. After loading the templates, you should be able to see the predefined layers in the right drawer

of SW Maps as shown in figure below.

II. Data Collection/Survey Using SW Maps

A. Recording Information about the Project (Layers: Project, Functionality Framework,

Sustainability Framework)

On site location, with the help of stakeholders and water users, gather information and record

feature data of Project, Functionality Framework and Sustainability Framework of the Project.

• Information to be collected under “Project” Layer

- Press Record at the top right corner (1 in the figure) button and choose “Record

Feature”.

- Choose “Project” (2) in the layer drop down.

Fill all the fields in the project layer, following are the information that you are expected collect.

III. Uploading data to Care IMS webpage

- Connect your device to the internet

- Goto Upload in the left drawer of SW Maps

- Select upload

- Fill the server address as “careims.softwel.com.np”

- Leave the destination folder blank

- Fill in the authorized user name and password

- Press Upload
