We welcome everyone to stop by and join us at our morning assembly. Each day beginning at 7:30am the entire JHC student body and staff assemble in the gym. During this time, we recognize students for classroom and school accomplishments, award Accelerated Reading goals and daily soccer kick-off winners, recognize Birthdays, say the Pledge of Allegiance, and take a moment of silence.

During the first full week of school, 2nd Grade students had the opportunity to view a project the 4th and 5th grade stu-dents did in Mrs. Deb-bie Burnett’s Science classes. Due to ex-tremely hot tempera-tures during that week, students were able to bake cookies on the dash-boards of teachers’ vehicles. Students learned sev-eral science concepts during the experiment. They also learned how hot it can get inside a closed vehicle, and the importance of staying out of closed vehicles during extreme weather conditions.

Thank You Dollar General Store!

At the beginning of this school year our local Dollar Gen-eral Store donated seeds, soil, containers, and other planting materials to JHC. The Dollar Store’s manager, Barry Burnett contacted Mrs. Debbie Burnett, JHC 4th and 5th grade science teacher, to make the donation. We sincerely appreciate this donation, and all the support we receive from our local Dollar General Store and the Dollar General Corporation.

New JHC Teacher Spotlight Ashlee Maynard is a new second grade teacher at Joe Harrison Carter Ele-mentary. She is a graduate of The Colonial Christian School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Western in 2009. She has worked in the Tompkinsville Elementary Cub Club pro-gram for the last two years. She has a daughter named Karidee McClendon. Welcome Mrs. Ashlee!!!

The new PTO officers will hold a PTO meeting on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 5:30pm. At this first meeting, the group will begin the process of developing policies and procedures for the new JHC PTO. The PTO Officer Election was cancelled due to the fact that no offices were contested on the final ballot. Initial planning for the JHC Fall Festival will be discussed on Tuesday night as well. This year’s Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 23, 2010. All JHC staff members and parents /guardians of JHC students are invited and encouraged to attend.
