The Cardax FT Controller 6000 The Cardax FT Controller 6000, of which there are two variants, (i.e. Standard and High Spec), is a processing board for an intruder alarm and access control system. Both variants of the Controller 6000 can operate on their own, or can have an optional Reader Module (part number C300181 or C300141) connected.

The differences between the two variants are shown in the following table:

- serial and USB ports, - two GBUS connections for connecting to other Cardax FT devices, - tamper monitoring, and - plug-in module interface.

When the Controller 6000 has a Reader Module connected, it receives information from the Reader Module about access requests and instructs the Reader Module to carry out the required function. There is a proprietary serial communication protocol between the two boards.

Only one Reader Module may be connected to a Cardax FT Controller 6000. Both units are designed to fit into a standard Cardax FT Cabinet together.

Communication The Cardax FT Controller 6000 has two GBUS (non-isolated RS485) communication ports. Any of the GBus Cardax FT devices can connect to a Cardax FT Controller 6000. Each device attached to a Cardax FT Controller 6000 must be allocated an "address". The device address must be unique to the GBUS on the Cardax FT Controller; however, it need not be unique to the whole Cardax FT Command Centre system.

Plug-in Modem The Cardax FT Controller 6000 has an on-board connector (Serial) for a plug-in modem (part number C200620) which is purchased separately from the Controller 6000. The modem allows for both Contact ID transmission and remote/PPP dial-up connections.

Before you begin Shipment contents

Check the shipment contains the following items:

Cardax FT Controller 6000 • 1 x Cardax FT Controller 6000 • 1 x Cardax FT Controller 6000 Installation Note (part number 3E2028) • 1 x Cardax FT Controller component identification decal • 4 x 16mm M3 screws

Cardax FT Cabinet Refer to the enclosed "Cardax FT Cabinet" Installation Note (part number 3C4513) for the shipment contents despatched with the Cardax FT Cabinet.

Power Supply The Cardax FT Controller 6000 requires a 13.6 V DC ± 15%. Plugs GBUS2 and GBUS3 provide power out connection points via 1A polyfuses. However, this DC voltage out will be approximately 1 volt lower than the voltage supplied to the Cardax FT Controller 6000. When using these connection points, ensure the Power Supply to the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is capable of supplying the extra current required.

Cabling For full details on site cabling and recommended cable specifications refer to Chapter 2 of the Cardax FT Installation Manual.

Ethernet cabling The communications between the Cardax FT Controller 6000 and the Cardax FT Command Centre Server should preferably be via a permanent Ethernet connection. A dial-up modem may be used for communication if network communications are not available.

For optimum performance 100BaseT unshielded twisted pair (UTP)(CAT5 or better) cable should be used for Ethernet connections. The Cardax FT Controller 6000 is provided with an RJ45 socket for ethernet connection.

High Spec variant only The High Spec variant of the Controller 6000 has a secondary Ethernet connection (link) to which communications can automatically be switched upon failure of the primary Ethernet connection.

This variant can communicate via either of the two on-board Gigabit (1000BaseT) Ethernet interfaces with the FT server and other Controllers in the Cardax FT system. For optimum performance 1000BaseT unshielded twisted pair (UTP)(CAT5E or better) cable should be used.

GBUS Communication Cabling The Cardax FT communication circuit between the Cardax FT Controller and all sub-units is referred to as GBUS Communications. The electrical specification for GBUS meets the standard for RS485.

The cable type used should be a low capacitance cable such as RS485 data cable or CAT5 cable. Note that this cable type is only suitable for the communications circuits. The power supply cable must be of sufficient size to ensure that the voltage at the GBUS unit terminals is the recommended 12 Vdc.

The cabling between GBUS devices should be done in a “daisy chain” or serial format, (i.e. a “T” or “star” format should not be used). The end devices on the GBUS cable should have the terminating jumper plug fitted, to terminate the GBUS circuit in 120 ohms resistance.

Cable Termination The Cardax FT Controller 6000 is able to be configured with two GBUS circuits. On-board termination is optional using termination jumpers. The termination jumper on either GBUS circuit needs to be fitted if the Controller 6000 is the end device for this circuit.

Configuring the Communication Ports The Cardax FT Controller 6000 only supports GBUS communications. There are two communication ports, GBUS3 and GBUS4.

Each GBUS supports a maximum combination of 8 I/O boards, 4 Remote Arming Terminals and 16 PowerFence Controllers per port.

RS232 cabling An RS232 port uses a DB9 connector to the serial socket. Refer to “Component layout” within this Installation Note for the location of the serial socket. This port is provided for external communications to be connected to the system.

In-service Relay (High Spec variant only) The Cardax FT Controller 6000 has an external In-service relay. Refer to the "Component layout" within this Installation Note for wiring this plug. These contacts close when the Controller is powered up, and remain closed until either the power is removed or there is a 'Catastrophic Failure'. In the event of a catastrophic failure, after approximately 60 seconds the In-Service relay opens.

The In-service relay is used to signal an external alarm if the Controller fails.

Installation 1. The "Cardax FT Cabinet" Installation Note (part number 3C4513) details

the procedures involved to mount the Cardax FT Cabinet: - positioning the Cardax FT Cabinet door - removing the appropriate cutouts - securing the Cardax FT Cabinet to the building. Note: The Cardax FT Cabinet should be installed in a secure, internal location. The security of the installation ultimately depends on the way the Cardax FT Cabinet is installed.

2. If you are connecting a Cardax FT Reader Module (optional), connect this to the Controller 6000 before screwing it into the Cabinet. Refer to the “Installation” procedure from the Cardax FT Reader Module Installation Note (part number 3E2092) to achieve this.

3. Using the 16mm M3 screws, fit the Controller PCB to the rear face of the Cardax FT Cabinet, ensuring that the rear tamper sensor aligns with the light pipe.

4. Install all the system and power cables. The cables should stow neatly and

be held in place by the cable clamps fitted into the base of the Cabinet. Refer to the previous section "Component layout" for the location of the plugs.

5. Install the component identification decal inside the Cardax FT Cabinet door. This decal enables you to enter wiring and connection details and identifies the location and designation of cable connections, LEDs, etc.

6. Initialise the Cardax FT Controller 6000. The following initialisation procedures are detailed in the later section titled "Initialisation": - Setup details - Optical tamper detectors

7. Fix the Cardax FT Product Label to the outside of the Cardax FT Cabinet door and enter the relevant details.

Initialisation Ethernet setup details

Each Cardax FT Controller 6000 has a pre-programmed, unique, Ethernet address (MAC address). When the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is connected to the Ethernet, the Cardax FT Command Centre Server (when configured) will recognise and acknowledge this Ethernet address. Note: The Cardax FT Command Centre Server must be configured to recognise the Controller's Ethernet address (refer to the Cardax FT Command Centre documentation). The Server then transmits the following information to the Cardax FT Controller 6000: - IP address for the Controller - IP address of the Server that the Controller is to communicate with

The Server can then send data to, and receive data from, the Cardax FT Controller 6000.

Procedure to receive an IP address from the server 1. Check the power and Ethernet cabling to the Cardax FT Controller 6000

are correctly installed. 2. Locate DIP switch 2 (SW2) on the Cardax FT Controller PCB.

Set switch 2 to ON (closed). 3. Switch on power to the Cardax FT Controller 6000. The red Run LED

flashes in the following sequence: (The sequence completes fairly quickly but it is important you ensure the LED finishes indicating the "normal running" sequence.) - The red LED flashes fairly fast during startup. - The red LED flashes three times per second. The Cardax FT Controller 6000 is waiting for its IP address. - When the Cardax FT Controller 6000 has received its IP address, the red Run LED flashes twice per second. This indicates the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is waiting for database information to be downloaded from the Server. - When initialisation is complete, the LED flashes approximately once per second indicating a normal running sequence.

Notes: • The section titled "Run LED" (later in this Installation Note) details the

different meanings of the various flash sequences. • When a High Spec Controller 6000 is powered on with DIP switch 2

(SW2) on and only a secondary ethernet connection, the Controller will obtain its IP address using the secondary Ethernet. Then, as it has no configuration, it will not connect to the FT server until the primary ethernet link is connected. Looking at the Controller it will be obvious that the there is no ethernet activity on either ethernet connection, as the RJ45 connector LEDs will not be operating, and the Controller’s run LED will be in 2 flash.

4. Locate DIP switch 2 (SW2) on the Cardax FT Controller PCB. Set switch 2 to OFF (open).

Assigning an IP address manually via a web browser When the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is started (reset or power-up) with DIP switches 2 and 3 enabled, the Controller uses the following default addresses: Controller IP:192.168.1.199 Server IP: 192.168.1.198 Gateway: 192.168.1.198 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 This enables installers to configure a PC with an IP address in the same subnet as the Controller, and by turning on DIP switch 1, connect a web browser to the Controller's Config web page and assign the desired addresses for the site. Note: The installer's PC IP address should be different from the Controller's IP address, (i.e. not 192.168.1.199).

Follow the steps below to access the Controller's Config web page: 1. Open the Internet Browser.

2. In the Address field enter the IP Address of the Controller as follows: http://192.168.1.199/config

3. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. The Enter Network Password screen displays.

4. Enter config for the 'User Name' (all in lower case), and CardaxFT for the 'Password'.

5. Click the OK button. The Cardax FT Controller Configuration screen displays.

6. The link to the 'LAN Configuration' page will allow the controllers IP addresses to be changed and saved.

Dial-up/Serial setup details Refer to the "Dial-up/Null-Modem Initialisation" section of Dial-Up Chapter in the Cardax FT Command Centre User Guide, for the procedure.

Optical tamper detectors The front optical tamper detector will sense when the Cabinet door is opened. The rear optical tamper detector will sense if the Cabinet is removed from its mounting position. When the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is re-powered after servicing and is operating correctly, the optical tamper detectors will be re-initialised. The following procedure will ensure that the optical tamper sensors are initialised correctly on power-up. 1. Switch off the power supply to the Cardax FT Controller. 2. Wait for the Run LED to stop flashing.

Note: This takes approximately 11 seconds, while data is being written to memory.

3. Turn on the power supply. 4. Close and lock the Cardax FT Controller cabinet door within ten seconds,

(i.e. before the Controller goes into a two flash or normal running state). Note: The Cabinet door must remain closed for at least one minute for the initialisation of the optical tamper detectors to be completed. Alternatively, an override reset on the Controller can be carried out in Cardax FT Command Centre (via the Status and Overrides tab of the Controller properties) with the cabinet closed.

Removing the Controller 6000 Follow the steps below to remove the Cardax FT Controller 6000 from the Cardax FT Cabinet: Note: If the Controller has a Reader Module connected to it, use the “Removing the Reader Module” procedure from the Cardax FT Reader Module Installation Note (part number 3E2092) instead. 1. Ensure that the power to the Cardax FT Controller 6000 is switched off and

disconnected. 2. Wait for the Run LED to stop flashing.

3. Following full antistatic precautions, disconnect all cables from the Cardax FT Controller 6000. Hint: Label each cable as you remove it.

4. Remove the 16mm M3 securing screws that hold the Controller onto the Cardax FT Cabinet fixing standoffs.

5. Carefully lift the Controller clear of the Cabinet.

Replacing the Controller 6000 To replace the Cardax FT Controller 6000, reverse the above procedure. Note: You must then initialise the Cardax FT Controller 6000 as detailed earlier in this Installation Note.

Dip Switch Settings The following table shows the Dip Switch Settings. The Settings in bold specify the default new installation startup configuration.

Initialise. On startup configuration and the IP address is deleted. Normal Startup - Configuration will be retained.

When DS2 is on in conjunction with DS3, the Controller will use the default IP address configuration as per the “Ethernet setup details” section. Controller will wait for IP configuration from the FT server depending on the DS2 setting.

For factory testing only. On startup, the main application is run.

Boot normally. Revert to the factory default version of the operating system.
